Story
If the history of the Earth were compressed down to a year, our species would arise in the last thirty minutes or so of the final hour. But life itself is not such a late arrival: It has existed on Earth for something like 3.7 billion years—most of our planet’s history and over a quarter of the age of the universe (as far as we can tell). What have these organisms—bacteria, animals, plants, and the rest—done in all this time? In Living on Earth, the philosopher Peter Godfrey-Smith proposes a new way of understanding how the actions of living beings have shaped our planet.

Story
Whether in political debates or discussions about immigration around the kitchen table, many Americans, regardless of party affiliation, will say proudly that we are a nation of immigrants. In this bold new book, historian Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz asserts this ideology is harmful and dishonest because it serves to mask and diminish the US’s history of settler colonialism, genocide, white supremacy, slavery, and structural inequality, all of which we still grapple with today.

We should hear all and “honestly” learn facts from those who have…the truth is the truth, no matter how uncomfortable. Thank you to author…for sharing.

Story
It's not too late to discover the lost gospel of Jesus and begin to live by it, to change our direction, to once again become people of the way. We could, with humility, embody compassion and justice. We could so completely trust God that we dare to share what we have with those in need, love those who hate us, bless those who curse us.

Love this series

I have been to over 1/2 of the national parks and many of the other places Matt and Karen share with us in this series. Listening to their stories bring back so many memories I have had in the places they visited. Matt’s storytelling has had me laughing out loud many times while enjoying Karen’s more factual information. Definitely books I could listen to over again.

Story
Without John C. Houbolt, a mid-level engineer at NASA, Apollo 11 would never have made it to the moon. Top NASA engineers on the project, including Werner Von Braun, strongly advocated for a single, huge spacecraft to travel to the moon, land, and return to Earth. It's the scenario used in 1950s cartoons and horror movies about traveling to outer space. Houbolt had another idea: Lunar Orbit Rendezvous. LOR would link two spacecraft in orbit while the crafts were travelling at 3,600 miles an hour around the moon. His plan was ridiculed and considered unthinkable.
