Don"t miss the start of this LitRPG adventure about a reincarnated necromancer growing in power and finding his way in a new world where the rules have changed vastly since he last "lived".

The story felt like a fresh approach to litrpg and the MC"s battle with his own pragmatism and general state of constant annoyance with the setting was the bit that kept giving. The VA did great, although I noticed at times he sounds like Bill Hader.

I enjoyed the listen. The VAs crushed it, certainly. Although the story has one of those resolutions that kind of make you wonder where all the steps to get there went. Mostly, I noticed a lot, maybe nearly all the sci-fi elements just sort of quit about half way through. You"re still in the setting sure, but there"s a lot less air lock breaching, mini-sun making and sci-fi military action going after a certain point and I was well past it in the story before I really noticed. Which is fine, more on myself maybe, it adjusted my perspective on the series a bit and I think I thought I was reading/listening to a different kind of story. It"s much less military sci-fi action and intrigue and a lot more character growth journey/ relationship dynamics focused, maybe a point in its favor for most.

Story
Travis Miller, his image reformed from the moron who screwed up our first contact with aliens to one of the heroes of the Battle for Eden, is given a new assignment: Retake the occupied colony of Brigantia. Losing it would be a glancing blow to the Tahni Imperium, but it would be Earth’s first solid strike against them, a chance to go on the offensive. Ryan Hendrix and the Fleet Marines will be the tip of the spear, outfitted with their new Aegis-powered armor, while Jessica Leer and her Fleet Strike fighter squadron clear the way for the Marines and their landers.

There"s little for me to say. It"s in keeping with the series, the first book at least. Ryan"s an idiot though. I"m happily on to the next in the series.

Story
As the months in the time loop seem to add up without end, Zorian forms alliances with acquaintances old and new in an effort to solve the mystery of the loop and save his city—maybe even the world—from destruction. But while his mage skills develop and he pursues more advanced and unusual forms of magic, Zorian must battle necromancers, fanatical cultists, and vicious creatures—all while avoiding the attention of the lich who could kill him...permanently.

A Great Addition

As delightful as Arc 1 is, arc 2 continues to deliver the same great premise, world building, adventure and mystery. The narrator does an awesome job of breathing life into the characters as well. I will say I am confused at the censoring of the cursing, but if you didn"t know you were getting the PG over the PG-13 version, you"d never know it the way the narrator delivers the alternate lines.
