Why didn’t I read the Title Details before making this selection? Vampires? I really don’t like Vampire Stories as I find them (and Zombies) boring, overly repetitive, saturating the genre(s).

It’s getting harder and to find good supernatural dark fiction/horror Audible Books that aren’t just a spinoff of a premise already explored by another author, one Book in a 3-8 Book Series, or a storyline that drags on and on forever. Sadly, some good Audio Books are ruined by annoying tinny, high-pitched narrator; or they try way too hard and end up like nails on a chalkboard narrations.
This Audio Book was an Audible Credit well spent. I do enjoy an Antarctic or Arctic or Deep Sea themed novel, and I never tiered of listening to it. The storyline, while compact, kept my interest, and the Narration was well done.

A storyline that keeps the listener entertained, with no long drawn out insignificant filler. There are a few good twists and turns, enough to keep me going to the end without asking for a refund. The voice actor slipped a few times crossing characters accents, but overall good.

Story
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Inlike amy other King nook I’ve tead. While it was long and a bit drawn out in parts, I had no problem sticking with it and enjoyed the entertainment. I wish there would have been a romantic ending, but with King? I’ll settle for a happy one. Great voice acting over a wide range of characters. In retrospect, it was like 2 books tenuously woven together. Overall, I would recommend you put it in your “Must Read List” for the holidays.

This Can’t Be Written By Dean Koontz!
Reviewed: 09-23-22
I am stunned.
I couldn’t wait for this book to be released. I was really excited about it and couldn’t wait to buy it and binge read it. Instead, all I got was a waste of money and a huge waste of my time. In fact, the book is so bad
I cannot even believe this was written by Dean Koontz.
I have read most of Mr. Koontz’s works and enjoyed most very much while some were not as good, but this is the first book I can actually say it was a waste of money. This book is so bad I actually had to force myself to keep reading and finish it. I wish I could get my money back.
What’s worse is that I recommended this book for our Book Club selection for September 2022. I doubt I will be granted the selection of another title for the club for a long time.
I’m just in shock at how bad this story truly is. There is nothing interesting about it. The story line is boring with no suspense, no thrills, no mystery, nothing, just flat. The characters are one dimensional and predictable with nothing intriguing in any of them. The only aspect I can find to say something positive about is that the narrator did a decent job with what little he had to work with.

A father and daughter try to survive the steady decline of all they know in this haunting thriller from award-winning author Ronald Malfi. First the birds disappeared. Then the insects took over. Then the madness began. They call it Wanderer's Folly - a disease of delusions, of daydreams and nightmares. A plague threatening to wipe out the human race.

A Good Read

As a Plus Catalogue Audible Book, my expectations were dubious at best. What a surprise to find a real gem in my favorite genre that has lately been a real hit or miss.
It was not your typical apocalyptic pathogen story that has been overdone in so many ways that anything new I pickup is a boring same-old same-old. In fact this had some very unexpected twists & turns.
It kept my attention, gave me my thrills, and most surprisingly tugged at my heart strings. I even actually shed a tear or two. Even though I was disappointed with the ending, after sleeping on it, I realized that while not to my liking, it stayed true to its form, made sense, and was not “rushed” as so many endings in this genre typically are.

I had to return it!
Reviewed: 05-21-22
I love Dean Koontz’s work. But I wish I could listen to this story but the narrator/main character was so bad, tinny & completely unbearable to listen to that I had to return this Audiobook. I’m so disappointed. I cannot read long text as I have a damaged optical nerve. Further, not only do I enjoy Mr Koontz’s work tremendously, but listening to smooth, lower octave voice relieves the non-stop tinnitus from a lost eardrum.
Please Mr Koontz, I hope you read this and offer the tittle again under Audible but with a much better narrator/character 🙏🏻.
Thank you
Kathy
