Interesting tale of a PI and several cases. Twists and turns. The how does it happen was interesting. Cast of characters are typical, eclectic southern. I do look forward to the next in the series.

Story
The cruel and bizarre slaying of a beautiful teen leads Detective Decker into the dark heart of an exotic subculture: the seamy, sometimes violent world of Southern California's rootless, affluent youth. But even the confession of a disturbed kid with cold "killer eyes" cannot soothe Decker's inner torment. For he knows in his gut this crime goes much deeper and higher than anyone expects - and that true justice, brutal and complete, has yet to be done.

This one felt off from the previous books. Definitely darker and more twisted. It was kind of explained at the end but this book was more unsettling to me.

It took a bit to get in yon the story. I was unsettled as we heard details leading up to the present. I did pick out the bad guy from early on but we were kept guessing on which side most people were on. I guess I need to get the rest of the series.

It’s always been easier for Cara Hargraves to bury herself in the past than confront the present, which is why working with a gruff but brilliant antiques dealer is perfect. While clearing out an estate, she pries open an old tin that holds the relics of a lost relationship: among the treasures, a World War II-era diary and a photograph of a young woman in uniform. Eager to find the author of the hauntingly beautiful, unfinished diary, Cara digs into this soldier’s life, but soon realizes she may not have been ready for the stark reality of wartime London she finds....
