How to Live in the World while Changing the World
Reviewed: 06-08-19
Bossed Up is a refreshing take on women in career transition. It's backed by research, but isn't laden with depressing statistics that leave reader is totally helpless. Quite the opposite. Emilie offers practical, implementable strategies deal with the world as it is while also working to change the world. She talks about how to take care of oneself against the societal expectation that everyone else should come first. She discusses how to grow one's confidence and identity, how to be assertive and set boundaries, how to set and maintain goals (and it's okay if you're not making progress on all goals at once!), and how to grow a network of people who help you feel strong and empowered.
Emilie acknowledges privilege, and to the best of her ability (as well as relying on other Boss Women for help) she offers strategies that many people can implement without wealth or an expansive network already. That's a relief to anyone who feels they're starting from scratch--if that's you, this book is a very good place to start.
