There are only two rules to the game. Stay alive. And don’t fall in love. When Ophelia’s sister disappears, there is only one way to save her. Ophelia must enter Phantasma, a deadly contest inside a haunted mansion, and claim its prize—a single wish. Phantasma is a maze of twisting corridors and lavish ballrooms, of demons and temptations. Ophelia will face nine challenges, each more dangerous than the last. There can only be one winner, and the other contestants will stop at nothing to eliminate their rivals.

Brace yourself for some bad acting but a FABULOUS story.

I disliked how "Ophie" used yelling as a form of acting, but I loved the characters, premise, story and pure creativity. Definitely worth credit.

The Manipulator. I can manipulate the emotions of anyone who lets me. I will make you hurt, make you cry, make you laugh and sigh. But my words don't affect him. Especially not when I plead for him to leave. He's always there, watching and waiting. And I can never look away. Not when I want him to come closer. The Shadow. I didn't mean to fall in love. But now that I have, I can't stay away. I'm mesmerized by her smile, by her eyes, and the way she moves. I'll keep watching and waiting. Until I can make her mine. And once she is, I'll never let her go.

Warning - YA book and a bit disturbing
Reviewed: 04-06-24
The male lead is meant to be an anti-hero???? This guy is disturbed and should be in prison for his behavior the the lead female finds her way to accept and consider him boyfriend material?!?!?!! Hopefully this is not a reflection of the true YA psyche. Ladies, this is a perfectly illustrated manual of what to absolutely avoid in any person in your life. The writing is immature and shallow. There are very good anti-hero books out there - this is not it.

Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Reviewed: 04-06-24
This is a great story!! Amy Harmon never disappoints. The narration was spot on with well developed characters and just enough Old Norse mixed in was wonderful as I am an Old Norse buff. There was a great twist to the traditional version of Baldar and Hod. Of course it is a HEA, which is just what I needed, Definitely credit-worthy.

Almost DNF....
Reviewed: 12-31-22
I listened to the whole series hoping it would become less predictable, but no. It was very irritating to listen to two people hate each other so much, so often. The characters could have been more complex and the story really had no twist or purpose. The narrator's did a great job but it was hard to finish.

Story
Pie and Pell are like two peas in a pod: meant for each other, madly in love, and living their best lives as Mr. and Mrs. Monster of Saint Mark’s...kind of. Pie is dreading her new job working for the tall, dark, and sleek Modern Minotaur. And the irony that just a few weeks ago she was demanding that Pell allow her to get a job to support the sanctuary, isn’t lost. It’s like the gods are playing with her on purpose. Pell is still his grumpy self but he’s got a new job as well—babysitting a bag of magic rings that seem to have a mind of their own.
