Awful narration!
Reviewed: 11-01-24
I’ve listened to just about all of Brian Freeman‘s books. This was a great story, but the narrator was terrible. He was way too theatrical for an action book, and there was no distinction in his voice between characters which made it hard to follow along. This is probably the worst narration of any of Brian’s books.

Public defender Rachel Wainwright is struggling to reopen a decades-old case, convinced that the wrong man is in prison. Homicide detective Deke Morgan doesn't want to agree. Story
Boston homicide detective Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Maura Isles are plagued by what seems like a completely senseless murder. Sofia Suarez, a widow and nurse who was universally liked by all her neighbors, lies bludgeoned to death in her own home. But anything can happen behind closed doors, and Sofia seemed to have plenty of secrets in her last days, making covert phone calls to old contacts and traceless burner phones. When Jane finally makes a connection between Sofia and the victim of a hit-and-run months earlier, the case only grows more blurry.

I had a REALLY hard time listening to this book because the reader would take sharp in takes of air at the end of each sentence that were SOOOOO distracting! But I love all things Rizzoli and Isles so I had to see it through. The story was cool and I like the twists, but the narration ruined this experience for me. 😫
