Story
I have exactly 5 hours and 10 minutes to get from Boston to New York City or the professional opportunity of a lifetime disappears. My only travel option? The second to last seat on a discount bus. Across from the bathroom. Wearing last night’s clothes (don’t ask). All worth it if I can make it in time.

On the home front in 1944, Kate wants to do her part for the war effort. When relatives arrive from war-torn Poland with a mysterious steamer trunk and an even more mysterious story, her life is about to hit center stage.

Story
One of Daphne Wade's guilty pleasures is to watch the Duke of Tremore as he works, shirtless, on the excavation site of his ducal estate. Anthony Courtland is by far the most exciting and handsome man she has ever known, and she dreams of one day being able to speak with him without getting tongue tied. Anthony, meanwhile, only sees her as a hard worker on his excavation team. He considers her a plain young lady and says so to a friend, unaware that Daphne is outside the library door, her heart shattering to pieces. So Daphne decides she will not be so silly any longer.

The beat. The cheers. The thrill of the unknown. I shouldn’t leave the safety of the music arena—my last name is McKallister, after all, and I’m intimately familiar with worst-case scenarios. But I’m drawn by the talent and the turmoil behind the weary eyes of the drummer on the streets. I’ve never seen anyone my age as wild and unrestrained, a lightning bolt of electricity that never hits the same spot on his bucket drums twice. He plays with such confidence, such rage. I have to know who he is and where he learned to bang out drum solos like he owns the night. I want to help him.

As with most of her books, this one uncovers a side of life that I cannot imagine bearing. That’s why it’s so hard to listen to. But, the wonderful ending is earned and so satisfying! This Author is absolutely amazing in giving each of her characters life & unbelievably realistic personalities.

Want a book that doesn’t pull the punches? Takes you into the life of a hard-working American who continues to “do the right thing” in spite of all the obstructionists out there. An honest book about an honest guy that will entertain AND give you hope that there are still GOOD people out there.
Love MudFlap’s final quote: Big change starts small within us all.

Riveting Suspense!
Reviewed: 07-09-23
I would never have claimed to be a Christina Dodd fan prior to this book. Yes. I have finished a couple of her books here and there, but she never captured my full attention. Virtue Falls completely changed that. From the get-go, the reader is hooked, not just by the traumatic events, which include murder, earthquakes, and tsunami‘s, but by the characters. Each one is more riveting, remarkable, and intriguing than the last, The hero and heroine are each slightly damaged, and yet genuinely good and likable. The suspense held me in her grip to the very last word and beyond.

Story
Getting a life isn't always easy. And hanging on to it is even harder.... Jodi Taylor brings all her comic writing skills to this heartwarming tale of self-discovery. Known as The Nothing Girl because of her severe stutter and chronically low self-confidence, Jenny Dove is only just prevented from ending it all by the sudden appearance of Thomas, a mystical golden horse only she can see. Under his guidance Jenny unexpectedly acquires a husband - the charming and chaotic Russell Checkland.

I bet I’ve listened to this book a dozen times over the past few years … and that’s saying a lot since I’m an avid reader (about 3 books per week!) and audible listener. Jodi Taylor has got to be one of the most talented and imaginative writers ever published! I SO wish this book could be made into a movie and get the kind of attention and recognition it deserves. I’d love to see Thomas in “real, golden life!”
