Story
Have you ever found yourself wondering “Why do I want more than I have?” Michael Easter, author of The Comfort Crisis and one of the world’s leading experts on behavior change, shows that the problem isn’t you. The problem is your scarcity mindset, left over from our ancient ancestors. They had to constantly seek and consume to survive because vital survival tools like food, material goods, information, and power were scarce and hard to find. But with our modern ability to easily fulfill our ancient desire for more, our hardwired “scarcity brain” is now backfiring.

A great guide in understanding why we do what we do.
Reviewed: 03-27-24
As a teacher who teaches wellness this is a great guide in helping both me and eventually my students understand why something that seems so simple to control is ultimately so difficult. The right decision seems so obvious but yet as a society we make decisions there the worst in regards to our own well-being on a regular basis. Hopefully it will get a little bit easier as we can better understand the why.

Story
As high achievers, we’ve been conditioned to believe that the path to success is paved with relentless work. That if we want to overachieve, we have to overexert, overthink, and overdo. That if we aren’t perpetually exhausted, we’re not doing enough. But lately, working hard is more exhausting than ever. And the more depleted we get, the more effort it takes to make progress. Stuck in an endless loop of “Zoom, eat, sleep, repeat”, we’re often working twice as hard to achieve half as much.

A must read to help teach the "WHY" in Health & PE
Reviewed: 09-18-22
This is a book that can definitely help you find ways to be a better you. The old model of personal achievement through self-discipline works for some but many if not most struggle with this because we have so many negative influences surrounding us. Focusing on movement and how it can help us to feel better in the moment makes a huge difference in continuing this positive behavior. Thanks to Dr Heisz for providing so many examples of how this is the case.

Brene never disappoints!
Reviewed: 03-19-22
I started listening to Brene Brown when Dare to Lead came out so I could be a better leader within the school where I teach. I was not disappointed. Since then I've gone back and listened or read to just about every book Brene has written. Somehow she continues to find new ways to educate and inspire. With this book as others I knew I was going to find ways to be a better teacher and a better person. However, I think this will also help me to be a better husband and for my wife and I to have a better marriage. There are so many positives coming out of this book I can't share wait to share its lessons.

Having listened to books from Brené Brown, Simon Sinek, John Gordon, Tom Rath, Dr. John Ratey, Dr. Micheal Gregor, and many others I appreciate what all these great authors bring to the table. However, I think Michael Gervais and Pete Carroll have done an amazing job providing a practical real-world application of simple things to help improve your life. Thank you!

Every coach and leader should read this book.

I wish I had played four more coaches and teams that emphasized the principles found in this book. I started off coaching with great passion but spent too much time coaching as I had been coached. It took years to find out for myself what Jon teaches so well through this book. we played games for fun as children and it should stay that way throughout. The techniques in this book can keep the fun in the game while also making sure athletes what to stay in the game rather than burning out prematurely.
