It’s been twenty-five years since the shocking disappearance of a female student and the distinguished Creative Writing professor who died while searching for her. When an alumna dies in a shockingly similar way to the story she wrote, and then another succumbs to a similar fate, they realize someone has decided at long last to avenge the crimes of the past. Fantastic plot and writing
Reviewed: 02-20-24
I generally avoid stories about writers and writing programs, but this one is the best literary murder mystery I’ve ever encountered. It even has a homage to And Then There Were None, but is wholly its own and not derivative like so many of the recent retellings of Christie’s most famous novel.

Story
Detective Superintendent Peter Diamond is the last detective: a genuine gumshoe, committed to door-stopping and deduction rather than fancy computer gadgetry. So when the naked body of a woman is found floating in the weeds in a lake near Bath with no one willing to identify her, no marks, and no murder weapon, his sleuthing abilities are tested to the limit.
