This book was painful for the first half. The main character’s anxiety & brokenness at the beginning was almost unbearable! Fortunately, the story unfolded in a manner that wasn’t painful.

Story
Bobbi Kaur is determined to plan a celebration to remember for her best friend’s wedding. But she has two problems that are getting in her way: 1. The egotistical, and irritatingly sexy, chef Benjamin “Bunty” Padda is supposed to help her with the menu since he’s the groom’s best friend, and 2. Someone is trying to sabotage the wedding. With aspirations of taking over her family’s event planning business, Bobbi knows that one misstep in managing the Kareena Mann and Prem Verma party, along with the other weddings on her plate, will only give her uncle another reason not to promote her.

Such a Vibrant Story

You don’t have to be of the culture to appreciate the culture. Although I’m not South Asian, I REALLY enjoyed this story! This is the second installment in this trilogy. It centers around the best friend Bobbi & The Naan Prince, Benjamin. The love story, mixed with wonderful descriptions of food mixed with a who done it, made this story even better than the first in this series!

Story
Sharp-tongued (and secretly soft-hearted) Kiki Banjo has just made a huge mistake. As an expert in relationship-evasion and the host of the popular student radio show Brown Sugar, she’s made it her mission to make sure the women of the African-Caribbean Society at Whitewell University do not fall into the mess of “situationships”, players, and heartbreak. But when the Queen of the Unbothered kisses Malakai Korede, the guy she just publicly denounced as “The Wastemen of Whitewell,” in front of every Blackwellian on campus, she finds her show on the brink.

Bolu’s writing is lyrical and rich with description that is positively decadent. I tried to listen to this book during every available free moment until done. The performance was spot on & only added to the experience. LOVED IT!

Yinka’s Nigerian aunties frequently pray for her delivery from singledom, her work friends think she’s too traditional (she’s saving herself for marriage!), her girlfriends think she needs to get over her ex already, and the men in her life…well, that’s a whole other story. But Yinka herself has always believed that true love will find her when the time is right.

This story of Yinka’s evolution IS a love story, but about loving one’s self. The story line about her family was pretty classically Nollywood, but the twists & turns of Yinka’s evolution had me want to keep going.

If Percy Jackson were a girl…
Reviewed: 06-10-21
The story was somewhat entertaining; however, it was really difficult to build sustainable interest because the narrator was so bad. Incorrect Inflection, inappropriate intonation, and incorrectly used words abounded. If this is the same narrator for the next book I’m the series, I don’t think I’ll read it.

In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Trevor Noah’s reading of his own book brought it to life for me. His words were insightful, honest, and meaningful. His explanation of the “Black Tax” was spot on. His history lessons about apartheid & their similarities to segregation were tragically true and clear. Thank you for writing such an eloquent book!
