Story
Eric didn't ask to be a vampire. In fact he didn't even believe in them. Biting your own tongue with your fangs does a lot of convincing. Even so, being a part-time undead isn't as easy as you might think. It can let you hold down a day job, true, but sometimes the night "life" can be more than a little difficult, what with those bloodthirsty urges and predatory instincts kicking in.

I wondered about a few things. Most of the time MC is very careful, plans ahead. Then he does things that are to dumb to understand. Spoiler: he knows a group is trying to kill him. They're using automatic weapons, gernade launchers and more. He admits that the group seems to have lots of money. They've attacked his home once. So why does he continue to live there? There's a rape scene where he ensures the victim doesn't get pregnant. Then a short time later he has sex with a willing partner. She gets pregnant. Where was that intervention? The novel has intervals of being slow and tedious. My attention would wander, then I'd have to go back to find what I missed. I liked this version of vampires. I wish a bit more of the 24 hours was spent on world building. In one part there's Mother Sun and Father Earth. In another this is reversed. In another neither. Adding to the confusion is on some occasions the MC sleeps. Then he finds himself apparently in the mind of his arch nemisis. MC doesn't do anything. Some of the twists in plot is like a tangled ball of string. You can try to untangle or ignore it. The reader does a good job. He kept my interest even in the most tedious parts.

I love most of books byTamora Pierce. I especially loke this series. The Full Cast mesh together well. This plot felt rushed. The why, how and who imprissioned the Immortals into the Realm of the Gods was not covered. It wasn't covered why the gods allowed this.

Struggled to finish. If you have Ms Hambly's Scandal in Babylon then don't get this. These two books are nearly identical! The main difference is that the occult element present here. I realized the plot and character names especially the dogs were nearly identical to that book. This made this book too predictible and a struggle to finish. I do not know which novel came first. I enjoyed Scandal better.

I enjoyed most of books in first seriee. A few common sense things should have been covered. I especially didn't like the flying without a saddle or harness. She knew that going into military meant using a saddle. Gear, supplies etc needs securing. So why didn't the two of them practice this? She knew (or should have) her dargon have made headway on this mental/emotional hangup. A brief sentence would have covered this. Why waste the space here? Raven's childhood best friend Henry was well on his way to being an excellent healer. So why does series two begin w him talking about starting a joke shop? Why was her 'frenemy' only givena few sentences. As book progressed I found ta lot of discrepancies. I just couldn't get into it. I also couldn't understand why her grandfather or headmaster (both retiredmilitary) didn' prepare her for military life Especially the resentment and hostility normal and precipitated by her family and reputation. Had this book for a few years before listening to full book. No planso future purchases in this series.

Thought this was a continuation of characterx from first 3 books. It's not! The plot was too predictable from first chapter. 'Finished' it by skipping several chapter. Anyone who has read other books will see obvious 'snips, cuts and minimal disguising' of many characters. The open ending guarentees no futher books in this series for me. The reader does a fair job. I enjoyed her reading even though I disliked the book.

Story
The first dragonrider in over a hundred years has been born...and it’s a girl. Never before has a female been chosen to ride a dragon. The Elite, a guild comprised exclusively of dragonriders, is dead according to most. No one has seen a rider in decades. The problems they used to fight overwhelm the world. Dragons are thought to be near extinction. However, the Elite aren’t dead...It’s just that a bunch of crusty old men who do nothing that benefits the world at large are easy to mistake as useless corpses. Sophia Beaufont is about to change all of that.

Reviewed: 02-24-24
The story's world build is hard to figure out. It sounds like rhe female MC is from a late 20-early 21st century modern wo4ld. The dragon riders time frame is rifficult to figure out. There are vikings, Native Americans and others. There is conflict because the dragon riders are normal male resistant to change, new ideas etc. Its not clear why the dragon riders want/chose to live in isolation. Supposedly dragons are invisible to the general population. But nothing indicates the males are. So why didn't they make at least a token attempt at keeping up in the world? The reader is excellent. She keeps the story going thrugh the long winded boring parts.

I purchased this because I enjoy most of Michael Anderle's books. I love Greg Trembolay's reading. Especially when he has this type of MC. The plot is interesting, holding my attention from start to finish. I didn't care for the female MC for many chapters. Her world views for unrealistic. If Earth and het metro area were 'so clean and perfect' why did she become an enforcement officer? There were other things about her personality that were irritating. I do strongly recommend this book. Hope the following books are as good.

Joined by his friend Alyss, Will is thrown headfirst into an extraordinary adventure propelled by fears of sorcery, and must determine who is trustworthy to the king and who is trying to take his throne.
