Interesting view of biblical times
Reviewed: 03-04-24
I did somewhat enjoyed this book and the performance was fine, but there were several “holes” in the story that really bothered me. To mention a few (WARNING: spoiler alert): How could a seasoned hunter, Tobias, missed his wife’s footprints, indicating she was captured by the Midianites, while he could trace the other captive’s footprints? They mentioned the peculiar arrow heads Ilana used - After hunting with Ilana, how could Tobias not even have considered that it was her arrow head that he kept hidden? Maybe I miss something, but how could the Jordan river, situated in a winter rainfall area, be considered more difficult to cross in summer? I could go on and on.

Good description of life in the camp
Reviewed: 11-23-23
I enjoyed the description of life in the camp. Pleasant story line, but for me there was too much time spent in the book on Shira’s introspection. Just my own preference, but I did not enjoy the narrator’s staccato way of reading.

Disappointing
Reviewed: 07-20-23
I was a bit disappointed. Although Solomon was fairly young (20?) when he became king, his actions and dialogue portrayed in this book were not convincing. Maybe due to my own preference of reading material, I was often a bit bored, but had finished book with some effort. As a Christian, it did prompt me to study Song of Solomon in the Bible again, which was positive.

Story
The dramatic autobiography of one of China's dedicated, courageous, and intensely persecuted house church leaders. This is the gripping story of how God took a young, half-starved boy from a poor village in Henan province and placed him on the front line for Jesus, in the face of impossible odds. Instead of focusing on the many miracles or experiences of suffering, however, Yun prefers to focus on the character and beauty of Jesus.

The year is 2026. The US military has a new weapon in its arsenal: an intelligent life-form so versatile that it can not only create a new generation of weapons but can become a weapon itself - entering a host’s body to manipulate (or kill) them. Admiral James Curtiss is tasked with deploying the new weapons, first in Cuba, then Venezuela, then China. But the news of the military’s breakthrough has gotten out and there are menacing forces trying to steal it. What’s more, a single man has somehow harnessed the new power and has become something more than human - godlike.
