Story
Jane’s days at a Midwest insurance company are perfectly ordinary. She blends in well, unremarkably pretty in her floral-print dresses and extra efficient at her low-level job. She’s just the kind of woman middle manager Steven Hepsworth likes - meek, insecure, and willing to defer to a man. No one has any idea who Jane really is. Least of all Steven. But plain Jane is hiding something. And Steven’s bringing out the worst in her.

To most people, Fiona Bristow seems to have an idyllic life - a quaint house on an island off Seattle’s coast, a thriving dog-training school and a challenging volunteer job performing Canine Search and Rescue. But Fiona got to this point by surviving a nightmare: an encounter with the Red Scarf Killer, who shot and killed Fiona’s cop fiancé and his K-9 partner.

The story itself wasn't bad, though having been introduced to Nora Roberts via The Collector with Julia Whelan as the narrator, this one didn't have a fighting chance. The narrator wasn't really right for this story. I think the book would have been more enjoyable for me had I read it rather than listened to it

Story
Center of the YOUniverse is an out-of-this-world spectacle starring Tituss Burgess and Jane Krakowski with music, laughter, and (probably) the salvation of humanity from its self-inflicted doom. Unaware of just how brightly the other one shines, Tituss and Jane will attempt the impossible: a double-booking. In a unique blend of song and storytelling, they’ll stop at nothing to upstage each other and steal the spotlight…until they realize the true purpose of being ridiculously attractive and having immeasureble talent: to unite and heal the world.

This is a good performance but for those looking for an audiobook or story, this isn't really it. It's essentially a Broadway performance for charity.

Who's the audience?
Reviewed: 08-19-24
This was an interesting one. The story and writing is actually quite good, and at times, philosophical. There is a deep dive into each character and their motivations. However, I don't think this would be a satisfactory story for very many listeners. It comes across like a sci-fi YA with the storylines for Emma, Max, and Adam. But it deals with some very real adult issues when from the perspective of the two parents. I cannot imagine a young listener understanding or caring about these two back stories and similarly, most adults will find the youth storylines too juvenile for them. This was overall a decent listen but the mix in perspectives, I think, would make half the book interesting to most listeners.

Story
From #1 New York Times-best-selling author Nora Roberts comes a novel of a woman who needs nothing, a man who sees everything, and the web of deceit, greed, and danger that brings them together - and that could tear them apart… As a professional house-sitter and freelance writer, nothing ties Lila Emerson down - not her work, not a home, and definitely not a relationship. She spends her life moving from one job to the next, sometimes crashing at a friend's Manhattan apartment.

Entertaining if not unrealistic at times
Reviewed: 05-26-24
After a couple tries, I don't think romantic suspense is really my thing. it is hard for me to get past the characters somehow finding love and acting normally while someone is trying to kill them. That said, this was my first Nora Roberts and it was certainly entertaining. The plot was a bit much, but for those who liked the Da Vinci Code, it had that similar experience. The characters were lovable which added to my overall enjoyment, even if some of the dialogue seemed a bit cheesy. When it wasn't cheesy, I thought the romance was well done and I enjoyed the witty dialogue between the leads. Overall, I can understand the popularity of Nora Roberts and would read more of her works. As always, Julia Whelan as narrator is chef's kiss.

Not sure Regina Hall was best selection
Reviewed: 05-15-24
I read this book before listening to it on audio and I don't think that Regina Hall was the best choice for Trinity. I loved this story and found it so original and even philosophical. All the characters were great as well. But Hall's voice didn't really vibe with me as the character voice for Trinity. Aside from that, this was really a great story and the multi-casting should be done for most audiobooks.

Came across more adult than YA
Reviewed: 05-05-24
This one was a surprise to me. I had thought it would be YA, which it is still described as such. However, the themes covered feel heavier and carry more gravitas than YA. Not a bad thing, but readers may have expectations going in. The author clearly did a lot of research about the Regency period and it shows. I respect the writing, the relevant and more themes, and the development of the characters, but at times the story felt longer and slower than it needed to be. So b/c of the latter, it wasn't a love for me, but a decent like.
