Story
Born under a hunter's moon, abandoned as a child, I was raised to be a powerful sorceress - okay, a mediocre sorceress. All right, I'm good at glamour and can make things sparkle, if my spells don't backfire. It was foretold long ago that I was a child of prophecy that would unite the fae and humans of Candor. The only problem, no one told me, and now the king wants me dead. For I am Eden, one of the adoptive daughters of Lady Eville, and I have to attend the royal masquerade ball - not to win a prince, but to avenge my parents. Even if it means pretending to be a fairy godmother....

The Narration is Whiny
Reviewed: 10-05-24
DNF. I'm not a fan of whiny a lead female character. She cried about almost everything and made crap so much harder than it had to be. The story had great promise, but it seemed like the author wanted to use a many words as humanly possible.

All Pyper Rayne—medium and coffee shop owner—wanted was the perfect vintage dress. What she got was a dead shop owner and a sexy ghost who’s suddenly everywhere—at her shop, in her car, and even lounging in her bedroom. But he’s not just any ghost. He’s a witch and able to appear in solid form...sometimes. If only he’d stop disappearing on her.

My bigggest pet peeve with media and books is stupid main characters. I had so much hope for this book because it started out strong and interesting.
However, when main characters make decisions that are clearly irrationally and unrealistic I lose interest quick. Not only did the main character stay in an unrealistic dangerous situation, the person she called could've said three words to end the already dangerous situation. That was 15 minutes of narration that could've been 2 minutes, and wouldn't have made her look like a basic b. In the very next chapter she buts herself, again, in a situation that's unsafe. uuughhh.... women aren't that stupid. Please stop portraying is that way.

Story
Lady Katarina Ashowan has never quite fit the mold of a noblewoman—and it's not only because she's a mutated fire witch. Though she's the closest friend and confidant of Alina, the soon-to-be-coronated queen of Troivack, Kat would much rather play cards with questionable characters or steal out at night to go riding than bandy niceties with suitors and deal with affairs of state. So as soon as Alina is officially crowned, the young witch plans to put away her dresses and get into some real adventure, training with a master swordsman.

Great story, however could've been 2 hours shorter if all the repeating lines/narratives didn't keep repeating over and over again.

I got this book during a promo and didn't really have high hopes that I would enjoy it, since I'm more into syfi.
However, once I started it. I couldn't put it down. I really enjoyed it and can't wait for the rest of the series to come out.

Story
When Royal Academy painting student Lucy Coover trips over a naked man passed out in an East End alley, she does the decent thing. She covers him up and fetches help. Trouble is, she can't banish his muscular form from her dreams as easily. Compelled to capture every detail, she creates a stunning portrait but is forced to sell it when the rent comes due. What could be worse than surrendering the very picture of your desire? Meeting the man himself.

At the beginning of the book, I was very hopeful for a good story. The narration, I'm sure, is what kept me hooked for the first half. After the third eye roll, because it's quite apparent what's coming next, I just had to turn it off.

Evie Harlow is quite content running the quaint little bookshop she inherited from her father…or so she convinces herself anyway. It might not bring in much money, it's not very exciting, and it's not a very good way to meet eligible men, but Evie's always thought she was destined for spinsterhood, a dull life, and hard work.

By chapter 5, I was done with the book. Not sure if it was the narration or the annoying heroine. It was a lot of screeching, and the heroine being hard headed for no reason. I rolled my eyes way too much, way too soon.
