Story
At a time when toxic individualism is rending our society at every level, bestselling author and renowned marriage counselor Terrence Real sees how it poisons intimate relationships in his therapy practice, where he works with couples on the brink of disaster. The good news: Warmer, closer, more passionate relationships are possible if you have the right tools. In his transformative new book Us, Real brilliantly observes how our winner-takes-all culture infiltrates families with devastating results.

He sounds like his mouth is full of marbles. The author comes across as inauthentic and not relatable
Reviewed: 05-18-24
The narrarator's cadence was stilted, weird pauses, inflections and intonation made it hard to follow the story to the point of irritation. Add in a wet sounding lisp, and I was wayyy to distracted. As far as the case references and the random anecdotes, the author came across as preachy, inauthentic and stereotypical (the odd reference/description of race ie. LatinX)... Super out of touch Boomer-trying-to-sound-relevant. (I'm a GenX Liberal and it made me cringe). . Overall, I feel there are so many better books out there and this one was a fad recommendation that fell flat.

Strength dwindles as the Talbot tribe make their trek into the Darien Gap, 60 miles of broken highway and inhospitable terrain through the sweltering Central American wilderness. Stinging from their recent losses, the group is forced to sleep suspended in trees to avoid the hordes thriving there, but that brings only a temporary, miserable reprieve.

Vampires and humans live side by side thanks to an uneasy peace maintained by the Assembly. As an Arbiter for the powerful organization, Miles Watson is authorized to act as judge, jury, and executioner for anyone—living or undead—who breaks the law. But now Miles is up against a threat more sinister than anything he's seen in his centuries as a vampire. A criminal network in London is offering wealthy humans the chance to become vampires without the Assembly's consent. When the process goes disastrously wrong, the Boss wants to eliminate any trace of the fiasco.

Eighteen-year-old Aidan Salt isn't a superhero. With his powerful (and unpredictable) telekinetic abilities, he could be one if he wanted to, but he doesn't. He's unambitious, selfish, and cowardly, and he doesn't want to have to deal with all the paperwork required to become a professional superhero. But since the money, fame, and women that come with wearing the cape are appealing, he decides to become the first supervillain the world has seen in more than 20 years: Apex Strike.
