Story
A thought-provoking exploration of how people really change their minds, and how persuasion is possible. In Stop Being Reasonable, Eleanor Gordon-Smith weaves a narrative that illustrates the limits of human reason. Here, she tells the stories of people who have radically altered their beliefs - from the woman who had to reckon with her husband's terrible secret to the man who finally left the cult he had been raised in since birth. Gordon-Smith shows how we can change the course of our own lives, and asks: What made someone change course?

Interesting but no mention of how to change minds
Reviewed: 10-27-19
Do not pick this book up if you are looking for How We Really Change Our Minds.
She gives her belief that facts alone do not change minds then tells some stories to support that.
I would give this a 1 for false advertising, however the brief discussion of some of the concepts was worth listening to.

Story
Consider the $20 bill. It has no more value, as a simple slip of paper, than Monopoly money. Yet even children recognize that tearing one into small pieces is an act of inconceivable stupidity. What makes a $20 bill actually worth $20? In the third volume of his best-selling Naked series, Charles Wheelan uses this seemingly simple question to open the door to the surprisingly colorful world of money and banking.

Story
When Thomas Jefferson became president in 1801, America faced a crisis. The new nation was deeply in debt and needed its economy to grow quickly, but its merchant ships were under attack. Pirates from North Africa's Barbary coast routinely captured American sailors and held them as slaves, demanding ransom and tribute payments far beyond what the new country could afford.

I listen to over 50 audio's a year and this was the worst audio reading of book ever.
There was emphasis at the end of almost every sentence.
Not sure if story was good or not because it gave me such a headache I stop listening to it.

Great audio, repetition brought down rating
Reviewed: 11-30-15
Great eye opening, compelling story worth reading. It could easily have been a 5 star if 1/4 of the repeated material was removed. The repetition caused confusion and made the story drag in parts.

Mind blowing ideas and the narration was fine
Reviewed: 12-31-13
Audio was very long (24hr) , he seemed overly optimistic about his predictions and there were parts where this dragged on.
That said I gave this a 5 because of the many new ideas he exposed me to.
Ideas that change the way I will look at life.
I also liked the way he backed up his ideas.
I was nervous of the narration due to the reviews, but found it was not an issue for me.

One of the top audio's I have heard this year. So many great actionable advice on decision making provided in an engaging format. While it is hard to remember all of them you don't have to. They have the main points summarized on-line for those who purchase their audio. While I have heard bits and pieces of many of these ideas in other audio books this one brought the best ones together and was able to expand on them. If you enjoyed their previous work (Made to Stick or Switch) then you will not be disappointed by Decisive. Unlike many other authors each book is very different and they do not repeat themselves.
