Story
When Shawna Haydel was 16 years old, she dropped Ashton Guidry's name into a potion that would supposedly make Ashton fall in love with her. She knew it was silly, but she clung to one irrational thread of hope their friend Patty's concoction would grant her heart's desire. Shawna's hopes were dashed when Ashton packed up her things and went away to college completely unaware of Shawna's feelings. Twenty-three years after Patty's potion was brewed, Ashton returns to her hometown. She finds time has changed a lot, including Shawna.

Delightful

Typical Robin Alexander/Lori Prince experience. I find the book to be relaxing and amusing. If you have anxiety Robin Alexander is a great choice for distraction. Calming. Lori Prince is an excellent narrator. She does the voices so you can tell who is speaking. Inflection adds to the story. Pleasant voice and I choose books with her. Like searching just for the narrator.

Story
Hayley Carpenter has always dreamed of being a famous screenwriter, but dreams don’t pay bills and LA living isn’t cheap. So when a temp position at a celebrity gossip magazine becomes available, she goes after it. Emerson Sterling has been acting since she was little, but a rough patch as a teenager has given her a bad rap in Hollywood. Just when she thinks her dream role can turn around the public’s image of her, a conflict with her co-star and America’s Sweetheart, Rachel Blanche, puts her on the front cover of every magazine, the villain once again.

Nice listen
Reviewed: 03-15-22
This was an enjoyable listen, no regrets. 4’s because it wasn’t amazing. There was some weak points, one with the story line where I felt it didn’t make sense, two some dialogue that was distracting. Example: character one says something, couple of sentences pass, character two “realizes” the thing character one said like they never said it. You don’t realize something that someone just told you. Minor but distracting as I started thinking about the writing process and how the second readers missed that.

I’m glad I listened. The story was mildly enjoyable but didn’t feel as fleshed out as it could have been. The narrator did a decent job. I could tell who was talking with the voice changes and the voice was pleasant. I don’t think I’ll listen to it a second time.

I enjoyed the story overall even though I didn’t find the characters super relatable. But, that’s me. If you like the idea of high powered lesbian with hard edges, you will like it more. This author seems to like to write those characters. My only real complaint is using “my lover”. Like, ummm, distracting. I don’t know what country the other is from so maybe that is more common there. In the US, “my lover” is a bit cringey. Just say their name. Kai moved her hand. Not my lover moves her hand. Pulled me out of the story and into my head having a discussion on why I found it distracting. So, don’t do that.

Story
Julia Maguire can't wait to spend two weeks in Hawaii with her best friends. She's been dreaming about this trip for years and all she wants is to lay on a sandy beach with an icy cocktail in her hand. But those vacation goals change the moment she meets Reed Baxter. Reed is a busy doctor with family demands. She's in Hawaii to let go, not find love, and she's not interested in any commitment. Adding a little heat to the vacation seems like a good idea as long as there aren't expectations for anything more.

Great Story
Reviewed: 02-12-22
Great story and narration? As always with Abby Craden, I’m not sure if she doesn’t sign onto mediocre stories or she has the superpower to save any story with her narration. Not that this is a mediocre story well developed characters, enjoyable pace, nice but not too many sex scenes. Actually could have used a little bit more sex for my taste but what was there was hot and by not going farther the author skipped alienating those who are turned off, pun intended, when the sex to story ratio starts to get off kilter. I’ll be looking at the other titles by the author! Really enjoyable writing.

If you’re in the mood…

I typically gravitate toward sweet romances but was in the mood for something with more erotica in it. Didn’t disappoint with a reversal of content. Obvs don’t try if you aren’t interested in prolonged, detailed, and rather rough sex scenes.

Story
In the second book of The Watcher Chronicles series, Jess finally learns where her father has been since the Tear first opened. While Mason tries to keep his distance from her, Jess continues to search for the other vessels with Chandler by her side. This series is intended for a mature audience. Recommended for ages 17 and older due to sexual situations and adult themes. If I were to use the movie rating system, I would rate this series an R.

Narration is fine. The concept is good. The execution of the story line is pretty painful. I thought the second book would move more into a plot but it loops in a circle. He is so cute and sexy, I’m traumatized, what shall I wear to dinner, he is so cute, five minutes of story, he is so cute and sexy, description of food…. It moves forward at a snail pace.

Ok, not great
Reviewed: 07-12-21
The book was a bit meh because the characters weren’t as fleshed out as I would have liked. I wouldn’t recommend it but I did finish it. I did like the very end as it had some elements that are missing from many lesbian romances. I hate spoilers in reviews so that is all I will say about it. The narrator was ok, not great as well. I would recommend trying Accidental Honeymoon by the same author. I loved that one. I didn’t look at publication date but I’d say this one feels like an earlier work before the author improved. So, solid 3.

Excellent!

Abby Craden is such a great narrator that I prefer strongly to select books with her as the narrator. This is my second book by this author and I’m very impressed. The two had totally different tones and both well written, engaging and enjoyable. This one is the darker of the two and I would say it needs a mild trigger warning as there are some abuse flash backs that may be upsetting for some listeners. Not too terrible but the writer did a great job with it so they had feeling, realism. If you are super sensitive on the subject don’t let that dissuade you from a great story. I hate spoilers so just take my advice and don’t skip this one. Romance but with substance. I only wish it was twice as long. It could have been at least 1.5 times the length.
