3 generations of strong women and a story of family and love. The war took so much from so many but a “little light in the darkness” changed their lives forever. I enjoyed this story and the talents of the narrator.

If I has been reading the print version I may not have made it to the end. At points the telling of the necessary history got a bit tedious but just about the time I would have put the book down the narrator brought in another element of time, happenings or people that made me want to continue on.I have read a lot of historical fiction about this horrible time in history but the on going timeline of events that was presented opened my eyes to the enormity of human sacrifice and loss among all socioeconomic classes and races.

Ok so not quite as interesting a story line as the first book but I just love the banter between the two characters. The book is a story away from current day issues and I found it entertaining.

This book does a wonderful job of bringing history to life. There were times where the story got a bit slow with detail but I soon discovered the details were necessary for me to understand what was coming next.

History has all but forgotten.... In the spring of 1708, an invading Jacobite fleet of French and Scottish soldiers nearly succeeded in landing the exiled James Stewart in Scotland to reclaim his crown. Now, Carrie McClelland hopes to turn that story into her next best-selling novel. Settling herself in the shadow of Slains Castle, she creates a heroine named for one of her own ancestors and starts to write. But then she discovers her novel is more fact than fiction....
