A very neglected but vital subject. Narrator could improve his pronunciation of Germans and especially Russian names.

A somewhat neglected subject but no excuse for the many factual errors: Constantine was not a Catholic saint; Tertullian was not recognized as an non-heretical authority; Joan of Arc was not a victim of "The Inquisition;" Solomon's Temple did not exist during the Crusades; Judaism did permit usury in relations with Gentiles, etc, etc. The pronounciation of important foreign words could easily be corrected, e g , Tang (rhymes with song not sang), Troyes, Reims, Heian, etc.

One is supposed to believe that Twain took Joan and her work seriously, but the narrator makes her story sound like entertainment for children or pious idiots.

The beauty of the western landscape, the kindness of most Anglos and Mexicans, and the special bond and dependence between man and his beasts help one understand and sometimes yearn for the irretrievable past.

Great story, juvenile humor, laughable linguistic skills. Sometimes it helps to have a expert review your pronounciation.

Simple, straight-forward, honest account of a complicated, virtuous schemer. Narrator needs to check pronunciation of Jacobin.

Humorous, biting, biased, clearly left-wing until discussing the modern Labour Party. From an American perspective, his treatment of the military aspects of WWI seems ludicrous if not dishonest.

The professor's lethargic spoken pace, his mispronounciations of English and foreign words and his occasionally frivolous attitude toward the ancient regime were a tough beginning. His claims about the importance of the Crimean War and his frequent reference to important economic statistics were very interesting.
