Story
Struggling artist Skyler Moore is flabbergasted when she receives a suspicious phone call from a lawyer she’s never met regarding a “private matter.” As soon as she arrives at the law firm’s office, she learns she’s the recipient of a large inheritance, a life-changing sum that will allow her to realize her long-held dream of becoming a mother. But who was her benefactor, Christopher Whaley? The late man’s name means nothing to Skyler, and she has no idea why he would leave her such an enormous bequest.

Dramatic and mysterious

This wasn’t anything too heart pounding or over the top, but it was an excellent story! I loved the way things tied together and it was a nice change of pace compared to most M&T I have listened to lately. I really enjoyed this one from beginning to end!

This book took the longest time ever to wrap everything together and make sense to me. But once it did tie things together and it was the last hour or two, I really enjoyed it. I’m curious if there is a part two or if there will be a part two now.

Story
Juliet Townsend is used to losing. Back in high school, she lost every track team race to her best friend, Madeleine Bell. Ten years later, she’s still running behind, stuck in a dead-end job cleaning rooms at the Mid-Night Inn, a one-star motel that attracts only the cheap or the desperate. But what life won’t provide, Juliet takes. Then one night, Maddy checks in. Well-dressed, flashing a huge diamond ring, and as beautiful as ever, Maddy has it all. By the next morning, though, Juliet is no longer jealous of Maddy - she’s the chief suspect in her murder.

Better than I had expected
Reviewed: 07-31-23
This was a great mystery, I enjoyed the characters and the build up. What I liked the most about this book was that it isn’t like every other mystery/thriller. Too many m/t’s just seem to meld together anymore, making it easy to anticipate what will happen next. I did wonder about the possibilities in this book, and in the end I did assume correctly, but there were still other things I didn’t pick up on and truly pulled everything together. Plus I am originally from Indiana so clearly I had to listen!

Story
In the tourist town of Wharton, on the coast of Lake Superior, Tess Bell is renovating her old family home into a bed-and-breakfast during the icy dead of winter… As the house’s restoration commences, a shuttered art studio is revealed. Inside are paintings Tess’s late grandfather, beloved and celebrated artist Sebastian Bell, hid away for generations. But these appear to be the works of a twisted mind, almost unrecognizable as paintings she and others familiar with his art would expect.

I’ve you d listened to or read any other books by Wendy Webb, then you’ve heard/read this one as well. Pretty sure I only purchased this book because it was on sale and narrated by Xe Sands… so slow and the same as all her other books. Actually not the same, this one was the worst.

big little lies feels

I noticed in the description that if you were a fan of big little lies, and went for this book. I very much agree that it’s similar to or for fans of big little lies. I really enjoyed the narrator’s as well as the story. It wasn’t too hard to follow, which sometimes when there are LOTS of characters I just can’t follow. If you’re on the fence about this one I say take the chance.

Twenty-five-year-old fitness-instructor Elle has been toiling away in the LA rat race since her teen years with nothing to show for it but a “vintage” apartment (with a permanently clogged toilet), an “alt-comedy” (unemployed alcoholic) boyfriend, and an anorexic coworker who’s constantly surpassing Elle at work because her dad owns the place. While Elle might not have a rich daddy to fall back on, her luck changes when she finds herself being aggressively pursued by a hot, rich 45-year-old man, a.k.a. a zaddy.

So based off of the synopsis I really didn’t anticipate the dark, racy, and intensity of this book. It took me by surprise as what I think the base of this story was- was not touched on at all with the description. I enjoyed it, it was a change in my usual listening, an unexpected change!
