Story
Ada promised herself she would never go back to the Trace, to her unbearable life on the swamp, and to her harsh father in Mississippi. But now, after running away to Baton Rouge and briefly knowing a different kind of life, she finds herself with nowhere to go but back home. Matilda, daughter of a sharecropper, is from the other side of the Trace. Doing what she can to protect her family from the whims and demands of some particularly callous locals is an ongoing struggle, so she forms a plan to go north.

Narration was so terrible I could get through the first chapter. Too bad. Sounds like it might have been a good one

I loved this book!!!

I loved everything about this book. The Storey, the writing and the narration. I’m so sad it’s over! I’ve never read a book twice but might have to!

Don’t like the narrators voice for lily. Why did she give her a man voice!?
Reviewed: 01-07-20
The way the narrator made Loy’s voice sound like a man drove me crazy. But the story was too good to stop listening.

This book never got good 😩
Reviewed: 11-13-19
I hated this book. I kept waiting for it to get good. But nothing ever happened. Two women led normal lives and then one dies in the end. And the narrator was awful too. The little singing clips were painful to listen to.
