This is the third Peter Hanington I’ve listened to on Audible. All three are terrific. The writing is wonderful. You care about all his characters, and the descriptions are well written. His plots are timely and believable. The action unfolds slowly and builds relentlessly. I love his novels!

From Martin Clark - praised by Entertainment Weekly as "our best legal-thriller writer" - comes a wickedly clever, tenderhearted, and intricately plotted novel about a hard-luck lawyer's refusal to concede defeat, even as fate, the court system, and a gang of untouchable con artists conspire against him.

Great story. Didn't see the ending coming...and that's rare these days. Well written and a very likeable protagonist.
Well worth the 13 hours of listening. I didn't want it to end, so I immediately downloaded another Martin Clark. Can't wait.

Story
Jackson Brodie has relocated to a quiet seaside village, in the occasional company of his recalcitrant teenage son and an aging Labrador, both at the discretion of his ex-partner Julia. It's picturesque, but there's something darker lurking behind the scenes. Jackson's current job, gathering proof of an unfaithful husband for his suspicious wife, is fairly standard-issue, but a chance encounter with a desperate man on a crumbling cliff leads him into a sinister network—and back across the path of his old friend Reggie.

If you like a mystery that you can solve immediately and the good guys struggle with for another 9 hours, you’ll like this book. The author beats you over the head with the obvious conclusion for most of the book, but our intrepid heroes can’t figure it out until the last few pages. Pretty irritating.

Story
A debut novel in the vein of Greene and le Carré, A Dying Breed is a brilliant and gripping story of the politics of news reporting, intrigue and blood set between the dark halls of Whitehall, the shadowy corridors of the BBC and the perilous streets of Kabul, in the shadowy le Carré-esque world of foreign correspondents reporting from war zones around the world. Carver, an old BBC hack, is warned off a story when a bomb goes off, killing a local official in Kabul, but his instincts tell him something isn't quite right....

Narrator is terrible. Every conversation is high pitched super dramatic. Writing is repetitive and redundant. He explains same things over and over. Every time something bad happens, the protagonist says, “it’s all my fault! I’m to blame! How could I have..,.” Gag! The story isn’t half bad but needed to be cut in half by removing all the hysterics. Don’t buy it.

Slough House is a dumping ground for British intelligence agents who've screwed up cases in any number of ways - by leaving a secret file on a train or blowing a surveillance. River Cartwright, one such "slow horse", is bitter about his failure and about his tedious assignment transcribing cell phone conversations. When a young man is abducted and his kidnappers threaten to broadcast his beheading live on the Internet, River sees an opportunity to redeem himself.

Somebody who enjoys bad writing.
Would you ever listen to anything by Loreth Anne White again?
No. The writing is weak.
What didn’t you like about Cara Gee’s performance?
Her reading is very "word by word" with lots of emphasis on "enunciation", and she is overdramatic!!
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment. I was frequently irritated by the repetition of dialogue over and over again.
