Performance was good.

so the performance was good, the narrator really captivated me, however the story was very... mid. The premise behind the monsters was decent, but the execution left much to be desired. the biggest issue was there was no build up of suspense, and when the monsters did show up, it was always out of the blue and sudden. While there was some foreboding the danger of the monsters, it wasn't really adequate to make me fear for the MC's life as it never felt she was fully in danger until the monster was literally right in front of her. Not to mention that the progression fantasy aspects were also missing. Not to mention the several immersion breaking plot holes. Overall, it was a bit of a letdown despite the decent premise.

really good so far, excited for more

love the story, there are a couple quirks, like how book 2 ended more than half an hour after the conclusion of the climax. given that this is just the official publication of a web novel, it is understandable. one thing that I was annoyed by. Marquis is a French word pronounced MAR•kee not MAR•kwiss.

Story
Leonard Dunning wakes up in a home he doesn’t remember—and to a face in the mirror he doesn’t recognize. He soon discovers he attends Blue Cherry High with his best friend, Josh Bernstein, who seems to be the most popular boy in school, with several girls competing for his attention. As the girls collide and clash over the oblivious Josh, Leo realizes each of them displays quirks of characters found in an anime harem comedy. So if Josh is the story’s protagonist, what does that make Leo?

Story is great, though the intro is long.
Reviewed: 01-22-23
Story is great, but the first act where basically nothing happens except the introduction of all the characters takes up a major part of the book. After that you get one instance of action which unveils the masquerade, and it goes back to status quo, though the MC starts to be a little more interesting.
However, there were numerous times when the narrator mispronounced foreign words that broke immersion, such as pronouncing the Japanese word Moe as the English Name.
Overall, I would recommend this book with a credit if you need something to listen to while at work or what not.

this story is funny and fantastic. my only complaint is with the narrator. Emma needs work on differentiating voices from each other especially when more than two people are talking, but she does apply appropriate flow and energy.

Yee and Wu are a great pair.
Reviewed: 08-21-20
The writings of Yee are enhanced by Wu's performance in this masterful prologue into Kyoshi's Avatar-hood. Just like other chapters of this world, it ends when the Avatar becomes a fully realized one. I always hope for more, but ultimately it does have a satisfying ending here, as does Korra and TLA.
