Story
In 2017, seven-year-old Ava in South Carolina wrote a letter to Tyshaun, an eight-year-old boy from Washington, DC. She asked him to be her pen pal; Ava thought they could help each other. The kids had a tragic connection - both were traumatized by gun violence. Ava’s best friend had been killed in a campus shooting at her elementary school, and Tyshaun’s father had been shot to death outside of the boy’s elementary school. Ava’s and Tyshaun’s stories are extraordinary, but not unique.

Important read if care about children"s health
Reviewed: 03-27-22
As now the leading cause of death for our teens (having surpassed motor vehicle accidents in the last few years), anyone who cares about children"s health should read this book. This book isn"t an easy read in the sense that the author does an excellent job of telling the stories, often in their own words, of the children left behind with lingering effects of gun violence. Yet it is an important read, especially for all those who do not feel the daily effects.
