Story
We are living through the most prosperous age in all of human history, yet we are listless, divided, and miserable. Wealth and comfort are unparalleled, but our political landscape is unmoored, and rates of suicide, loneliness, and chronic illness continue to skyrocket. How do we explain the gap between these truths? And how should we respond? For evolutionary biologists Heather Heying and Bret Weinstein, the cause of our troubles is clear: The accelerating rate of change in the modern world has outstripped the capacity of our brains and bodies to adapt.

it is an amazing illustration of the authors blind spots that after everything they observed during covid they still think that state regulations are the solutions to the problems they perceive.
they cite the human biological regulation of temperature being important and conflate that with top-down state regulations. regulatory systems in the body are governed by the individuals bodies and the successful trends emerge through the competitive market of evolution through selection of winning strategies. if the government regulated body temperature in the bureaucratic and technocratic and power driven way they regulate everything else; humanity, especially at its fringes, would face a pandemic of freezing and overheating, would fail to adapt to changes, would waste almost incalculable resources etc. the authors should invite more economists on their podcast (of neoclassical, chicago and austrian schools etc) and educate themselves on greater dangers of the solutions for which they preach.

Story
An Enquiry Concerning the Principles of Morals was published in 1751 by Scottish enlightenment philosopher David Hume, a man who revolutionized our understanding of philosophy. Hume uses this work to explore the foundations of morality, asserting that our ethical nature is based upon sentiment rather than reason. He delves deeply into the subject of morality, expanding upon the perspective expressed initially in his Treatise of Human Nature.

Story
To the modern eye, King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table have many similarities to our own contemporary super-heroes. Equipped with magical powers, enchanted swords, super-strength, and countless villains to take on, they protect the weak and innocent and adhere to their own code of honor. Comparing Batman, Superman, and Captain America to Sir Launcelot, Sir Tristram, and Sir Galahad isn't a huge leap of the imagination.

I thought lancelot or tristan or percival were meant to be the best of knights,
for I had never heard tale of the Knight of the Four Chans before reading these pages here.
even when speaking of the impressive exploits of others knights more renowned to me, the author would be driven to non-sequitur; "and Anon, he was in truth the best of noble knights."
imspired am I to spread word of this well and good Anon throughout the many threads and realms I troll.

Story
In January 2022, a small group of Canadian truckers fed up with nearly two years of COVID restrictions and a new vaccine mandate for cross-border essential workers decided to take their frustrations directly to the nation's capital. The Freedom Convoy quickly took on a life of its own as hundreds of trucks and thousands of protesters made the journey to Parliament Hill. In this book, Andrew Lawton combines his own on-the-ground reporting and countless hours of interviews with the Freedom Convoy's organizers and volunteers to tell, for the first time, the whole story of the convoy.

andrew did a fine job here of securing an accurate narrative of the events into the historical record.
while his bias is clear and unmasked, I feel like I could give this book to someone with a cbc-level of understanding of the events, and if they had a reasonably open mind they would be able to be informed and challenged by the tale.

For over a decade, philosopher and energy expert Alex Epstein has predicted that any negative impacts of fossil fuel use on our climate will be outweighed by the unique benefits of fossil fuels to human flourishing--including their unrivaled ability to provide low-cost, reliable energy to billions of people around the world, especially the world’s poorest people. And contrary to what we hear from media “experts” about today’s “renewable revolution” and “climate emergency,” reality has proven Epstein right.

great read. spooky and an invaluable addition to the genre.
I've never seen the movie though I imagine some of the erotic elements are toned down or simply alluded to rather than depicted so explicitly. it would be interesting to see it adapted as a hentai series, instead expanding on the disturbing sexual elements of the book. and if anyone ever braves to make such an adaptation I'd be interested in watching it.. for educational er uh, artistic purposes..

I enjoyed the insights into patricks life and his commentary on the strategies he has employed. the examples he gives of other successful people also contain great lessons.
it lacks a bit actually coaching your next moves, reading less than even a 'game theory for dummies' and more like an anthology of inspirational examples that you will need work and wisdom to adapt into your game.
