The first half of the book is literally the Disney movie up through the Cave of Wonders, after that it stays with Disney but cuts out Aladdin getting the lamp and goes straighy to the end where Jafar has it. They change a few things all of which is predictable, minus the actual 3rd wish, and add a bunch of boring dialog, I kept waiting for "the good part" but it never came.

An interesting take on Vampires, Werewolves, etc blended with a hunger games theme. The leading perfect in every way mans sexual obsession is a bit repeatative. He wants her, we get it. Our heroine is also depicted as female perfection though, so how does a vamp resist?

Sienna shows up and despite be "terrified" for 2 seconds, she constantly disobeys with no repercussion, without trying gains the admiration of all the "right" people and is touted as the underdog which shes not. The other contestants don't like her, so what. Its the vamps that matter and they like her, and as someone that wins everything, how is she an underdog? She's clearly the front runner.

i liked the human/vampire dynamic. The power disparity was the one thing that felt genuine and I was bummed when they "discover" she's supernatural with powers. It makes for lazy writing and insincere struggles imo. All these hard times are alluded to, but the horse you knew for 3 days is hurt and suddenly the power just rips out of you? right. Give me a human struggling in a supernatural world, not a witch wiggling her fingers for an easy out.

Despite the plot flaws, again imo, the story itself is solid and I like the world she has created.

The narrator uses the same voice (bettina) for all characters unless speaking in 1st person. When you are hearing Jacksons inner thoughts but hes talking to bettina it can be confusing. He and Bently have their own "voice" but she uses the same for every other male and there are several. Same with the girls. a couple have accents, otherwise, all the same.

the story is good, if unbelievable. the protagonist is introduced as a bullied outcast nerd yet is described as looking like a super model while being smart, sweet, funny, brave, strong, determined - basically perfect. she then goes to witch school, immediately makes friends with all the popular kids, and in 3 short weeks of physical training, and without magic, is fighting off demons better than seasoned adult fighters. the main group is also around 16 yet act 25, in all ways, including s3x scenes. while the fully trained powerful adult coven members get killed off in minor skirmishes, for some reason, the teenagers dominate the field, killing everything with barely a scratch. there are several twists, all but 1 is predictable.

the perfect series to zone in and out because even if you miss something, you didnt. dispite my complaints ^ i did find the story to be enjoyable. im not sorry i bought it, but i doubt ill ever listen to it again.

Basic predictable story with bad a narrorator

The narrorator makes Sookie sound like a beligerent bratty child and has no character range. She basically gives Sookie and Sookie with a cold for the guys. The single point of view telling from someone constantly either acting simple and/or throwing a tantrum was annoying. Sookie felt a very sheltered, bordering special needs 12 yr old, not a 25 yr old mentally sound woman. Rather than root for the protagonist I found myself wishing one of the Vamps would put her out of my misery. The story is predictable and and has a lot fewer interesting charachters, interactions and twists than the tv show. I decided to read the book because they almost always have way more details and interesting things left out but this is a rare occasion where the show far exceeded the books.

The narrorator, while appropriate for a teenage girl, doesn't have much character range. the story is fast paced action, suspense and a nice plot twist at the end. i appreciate that the author keeps the "love" scenes pg.

This is an AI read book. It reads the entire story in one voice with no character distinction. The protagonist is a New York born and raised woman but the book is read in a proper British accent which I found disconnecting and annoying.

There is MINIMAL character development. What development there is doesn't make sense and too much emphasis is placed on hooking up and not enough on what is supposed to be the actual plot. I kept reading because the plot premise is good, waiting for the story to fill out but it never did.

Spoilers

As a side note, because thats what the actual plot feels like, her back story is she grew up in foster care and is really disliked. She has no friends, her roommates kicked her out, etc. The author provides 0 explanation for the dislike but boy is she popular with the guys. One night she meets a hot guy at work, hooks up, and after is abducted via magic portal by creepy old guys.

We first meet out protagonist as she is escaping a lab with amnesia and almost gets run over. The driver just happens to be Headmaster at a magical school and he takes her there. Upon waking and throughout the book, she shows 0 fear and barely a mild curiosity about why she was abducted and can't remember anything. She makes immediate besties with the first girl she meets and naturally, her roomies are the most popular girls who hate her before even meeting her. You know where thats going.

The hottest guys at school obsessively want her on first sight and she returns their interst, declaring she is going to sleep with them and proceeds to do so the very next day. Her intense horniness without explanation is seriously eye roll worthy and the sex scene over the top, so much that I skipped through most of it. If you guessed her stratosphere reaching orgasm unlocked her memories, you would be right. Do we get some much needed info on who she is and whats going on? No! We get my first spoiler paragraph. But wait, the hot guy from the night she was abducted is a student too and just as obsessed with her as the guy she just boned. Que the love triangle.

The first few chapters up through the hill party are fine. It's character introduction, and they're setting up the story. Then, you have to sit through twenty plus chapters of the protagonists' self-pity and constant whining. In the beginning, I felt compassion, but several chapters later, with a very slow moving and unimaginative plot that's been done to death, Im irritated every time Grace speaks. It's so slow, so predictable, and so annoying that I looked up the end online and moved the book to my archive without finishing. I predicted all but Ms. Chancellor in the ending, btw.

i love a good happily ever after, but the take down of Arowan was too simple, the build up for the valg princesses that went nowhere was disappointing, and that every main character lived with no major injuries was a little too neat. That Mannon lost all her 13 and Abraxos lost his mate was especially heartbreaking. I would have liked to have met Vaughn at some point since he was part of the cadre, but there was no reason for his prolonged absence really given. Also, the male characters were just as instrumental, especially Dorian, in winning, yet emphasis was put on the women's roles and theirs down played. The subservience all the males developed was a bit emasculating as well, imo. There was a lot I thought was well done, but this is not my favorite book in the series. I hope the author might revisit this world at a later time with the next generation, maybe dealing with the angry Gods or something.

This doesn't sound like a true audiobook. it's more like listening to a movie you can't see. no, "he said," or "she walked across the room." its different voices talking and distracting sound effects that drown out the dialogue at times. if you are a fan of this genre, it will definitely feel familiar. im not sure how it got so many high star reviews.
