Story
Ashley Perrin is fresh out of college and starting a job as a community liaison for the Third District–the city’s only sector with more alien residents than humans. Ashley’s barely found where the paper clips are kept when she’s beset with constituent complaints–from too much noise at the Annual Lupidian Celebration Parade to a trip-and-fall chicken to a very particular type of alien hornet that threatens the very city itself. And if that’s not terrifying enough, Ashley is next up at the office karaoke night.

Story
Our universe is ruled by physics, and faster-than-light travel is not possible - until the discovery of The Flow, an extradimensional field we can access at certain points in space-time that transports us to other worlds, around other stars. Humanity flows away from Earth, into space, and in time forgets our home world and creates a new empire, the Interdependency, whose ethos requires that no one human outpost can survive without the others. It's a hedge against interstellar war - and a system of control for the rulers of the empire.

Scalzi has built an interesting world and set up a compelling problem. I'm happy to have spent time with these people. I'm curious to see where they all end up.
I think of Wil Wheaton as the voice of John Scalzi. His interpretation of the story is spot on. Wheaton never stumbles over some very complicated names. He's a damn fine performer.

Listen at 1.2 speed. Fascinating tale.

We all know about this murder. What the author captures is the history and culture of corruption that goes back at least 3 generations. The victims are the heroes of this story.
The weak point is a rather draggy performance. I almost returned the book until I remembered I could speed it up.

Fascinating history! Tragic Story

Like many Americans, I was ignorant of this part of our history. The story is told like a complex mystery, except it's all true.
I needed to speed up the narration in some spots. The pacing of the reader was slow for my taste. But I was still engrossed in the story.

Story
This personal story about a spiritual journey away from Christianity is an honest examination of what we can know about God. Popular religious beliefs and practices are challenged, with potential new information for those who may be questioning their faith. After formal academic study of religion, Baptist minister David Ramsey became agnostic and left the ministry altogether. In this book, he shares how his search for truth led to personal doubts about the foundation of Christianity, the resurrection of Jesus, and eventually the very existence of God.

The author obviously struggled with his deconversion from Christianity. The emotions are honest, true and very raw. I've heard the author speak recently, and his feelings have mellowed over time. But this is as honest a memoir of the loss of faith as you will ever hear.
The production and performance are first rate. It's well worth a credit, and your time.

Story
Life is hard enough for a teenage girl in 1950s suburbia without having a mother who may—or may not—be a witch. A single mother at that. Sure, she fits in with her starched dresses, string of pearls, and floral aprons. Then there are the hushed and mystical consultations with neighborhood women in distress. The unsavory, mysterious plants in the flower beds. The divined warning to steer clear of a boyfriend whose fate is certainly doomed.
