Story
It was four o'clock in the morning. A young woman pushed through the hospital doors. Staff would later say they thought the woman was a new mother, returning to her child - and in a way, she was. She walked into the nursery, where a baby girl lay sleeping. The infant didn't wake when the woman placed her gently in the shopping bag she had brought with her. There is CCTV footage of what happened next, and most Australians would have seen it, either on the internet or the news.

Story
Back in college, Jane Lewis would have given anything to be like homecoming queen Connie Bryan. Instead she was just Plain Jane - overweight, frumpy, and painfully shy. That was then. Today, a lovely and confident Dr. Jane Lewis has a thriving psychotherapy practice, her own radio talk show, a beautiful old Louisiana mansion, and her affectionate, nutty dog, Olive, to keep her company. The only thing missing is someone to share her life.

I was very excited for this book since it was a longer story. But the story fell flat.. dogs who understand unrealistic commands, ghosts that appear and no one thinks it’s abnormal, a hallmark love story. It was just a weird mashup of weird situations and not my cup of tea. The narrator was amazing though.

Finally another book on a side character’s experience and story! Lovers hearing Lily and Talbots story and yet continuing the series and progressing it at the same time. I thought book 6.5 and 6.75 would have been better as 1 instead of 2 short novellas but alas here we are. On to number 7

Story
Lily and her ex-husband, Ryle, have just settled into a civil coparenting rhythm when she suddenly bumps into her first love, Atlas, again. After nearly two years separated, she is elated that for once, time is on their side, and she immediately says yes when Atlas asks her on a date. But her excitement is quickly hampered by the knowledge that, though they are no longer married, Ryle is still very much a part of her life—and Atlas Corrigan is the one man he will hate being in his ex-wife and daughter’s life.

Listening to this series brought back a lot of bad memories for myself by my previous marriage is very similar. But two years out, I’ve found my Atlas and life is much better. I’ve seen this series getting. A lot of negative reviews because of the abuse in them but i think that’s shallow of people. These things do happen and they’re hard to hear. Brings back a lot of bad and complicated memories. I’m like lily, i have a list - mentally. I check it every once in a while to see if i did the right thing or if i made the right choice by walking away. I didn’t have a child to consider in this situation of mine but it doesn’t make it any easier. Another 10/10 for me. Love this series.

As someone who lived in a past abusive relationship, this struck home for me. While mine was never physically abusive. Hearing Lilly describe how Ryle could change. Describe his remorse and his promises it would end. It took me back. What a wonderfully written book and description of how hard it is to leave abuse and how easy it is to accept and forgive.

This book was amazing. I was hooked from the first chapter until the end and didn’t wanna pause it for a second. The writing is wonderfully done and keeps you on your toes the entire time. A story of love, tragedy, betrayal, and plot twists like no other. I’m immediately going to bing all of Colleen’s books hoping they are as good as this one.

Summer in Sand Lake isn't complete without a trip to Meade Creamery - the local ice cream stand founded in 1944 by Molly Meade, who started making ice cream to cheer up her lovesick girlfriends while all the boys were away at war. Since then, the stand has been owned and managed exclusively by local girls, who inevitably become the best of friends.

Kate is an awful character
Reviewed: 01-11-21
I loved this story and really identified with Amelias love for the ice cream stand. I too fell in love with my first job in a restaurant the same way that has been a family run business for 60 years and basically unchanged. I really loved Amelias compassion and concern for the business. I love the subtle love story that builds throughout but I wish it touched on it a little more in the end, maybe with an epilogue with “one year later” or something to show how Grady and Amelia were, and how the ice cream truck turned out.
But through the whole story i HATED the character Kate. She was such a bully throughout the story. She was rude, unapologetic, and an abusive friend towards Amelia. I know you need some kind of drama and fight to an extent but i think the whole back and fourth with Amelia and Kate was awful.
