Story
Billy Halleck commits vehicular manslaughter when his lack of attention results in the death of an old gypsy lady on the street. Overweight Halleck is a lawyer with connections, though, and he gets off with a slap on the wrist. After the trial, the victim's ancient father curses him with a single word: "thinner". Shedding weight by the week, Halleck is desperate enough for one last gamble...one that will lead him to a nightmare showdown with the forces of evil melting his flesh away.

reminds me of traditional books on tape
Reviewed: 08-18-21
I saw a lot of reviews saying they hated the production/ music within the book but it didn't bother me. I think it's more old fashioned than it was bad, it reminded me of the books on tape I listened to when I was young.
All together I enjoyed the book and I was fun complete the Bachman books.

Story
It's 1980 in New York City, and nowhere is the city's glamour and energy better reflected than in the burgeoning Harlem ball scene, where 17-year-old Angel first comes into her own. Burned by her traumatic past, Angel is new to the drag world, new to ball culture, and has a yearning inside of her to help create family for those without. When she falls in love with Hector, a beautiful young man who dreams of becoming a professional dancer, the two decide to form the House of Xtravaganza, the first-ever all-Latino house in the Harlem ball circuit.

PLEASE watch Paris Is Burning before this book!
Reviewed: 04-29-21
This book is based off of real people who lived and died that were featured in the documentary Paris Is Burning. Please please watch the documentary and understand that they were real people that lived full lives that had nothing to do with this author. I'm not trying to tell you not to read/listen to the novel but rather that your first impression of the Xtravaganzas shouldn't be as fictionalized characters.

Jaws is the classic blockbuster thriller that inspired the three-time Academy Award-winning Steven Spielberg movie and made millions of beachgoers afraid to go into the water. Experience the thrill of helpless horror again—or for the first time!

bad story but quality performance
Reviewed: 06-04-20
This book aged like milk. If you are a fan of the movie or are in anyway critical of the stories you consume you will be bitterly disappointed. however the same cannot be said for Erik Steele's performance which was excellent and brought like to these otherwise dull characters.
