Story
If you trust your heart, you'll always know who you are…Each summer, Kate Livingston returns to her family's lakeside cottage, a place of simple living and happy times - a place where she hopes her son, Aaron, can blossom. But her quiet life gets a bit more interesting with the arrival of a mysterious new neighbor, JD Harris. JD has a good reason for being secretive. In a moment of sheer bravery, the Washington, D.C., paramedic prevented a terrible tragedy - and became a national hero. He's hardly able to remember who he was before the media frenzy…until he escapes to this lovely, remote part of the Northwest.

The Women

This was the most amazing and heart wrenching story about the Vietnam Nam War. Like the author, I was in junior high and high school while this war was raging and being protested. I attended several funerals for my friends’ brothers during that time. I was amazed about how the women were treated when they returned and that they were told that there were no women in Vietnam Nam. I grew up to be a RN and had a head nurse who was a MASH nurse with the Air Force. I wish I had known more, especially as this story portrayed, so I could have appreciated and acknowledged her service more. I recently saw a drink coaster at a friend’s house that said, “Home of the Free, Because of the Brave”…. Thank you Kristin for writing such an accurate and beautiful story about one of America’s most tragic wars which I found educational and enlightening and increased my appreciation for all the men and women who fought and died there, and, for those who now continue to valiantly protect us and our country.

High-school sweethearts Mac and Edie Swan lead a seemingly picture-perfect life in the sleepy-sweet community of Oak Hill, near Mobile, Alabama. Story
When they were growing up, Dana, Harper, and Tawny thought of themselves as “sometimes sisters". They connected only during the summer month they’d all spend at their grandmother’s rustic lakeside resort in north Texas. But secrets started building, and ten years have passed since they’ve all been together - in fact, they’ve rarely spoken, and it broke their grandmother’s heart.

Story
Laugh-out-loud funny and deeply touching, Beth Hoffman's sparkling debut is, as Kristin Hannah says, "packed full of Southern charm, strong women, wacky humor, and good old-fashioned heart." It is a novel that explores the indomitable strengths of female friendship and gives us the story of a young girl who loses one mother and finds many others.

Story
Likened to the works of Faulkner and Dickens when it was first published 20 years ago, this extraordinarily accomplished debut novel is a brilliantly plotted story of forbidden love and piercing political drama, centered on the tragic decline of an Indian family in the state of Kerala, on the southernmost tip of India. Armed only with the invincible innocence of children, the twins Rahel and Esthappen fashion a childhood for themselves in the shade of the wreck that is their family.

I found the characters and stories interesting and sad. It was difficult to follow the time lines of the story because it would talk about characters dying and the the next chapter or chapters would relay stories about the ones who were previously told as having died. So, I felt disoriented a lot during the reading of the book. The reader was excellent with the story telling.
