Love the Daniel Pitt series. I did suspect the killer early on but still enjoyed the mounting suspense. I love the way Charlotte and Thomas Pitt are still included and hope that continues.

Awful book

This was a dreadful book. I kept hoping it would get better and finally gave up and fast forwarded to the end. It was filled with sick characters with no redeeming qualities. The ending was a total cop out because apparently the author couldn't think of a satisfying way to end the story.

I have mixed feelings about this book. The plot concept was intriguing but there were so many characters, some of whom
weren't even who they purported to be was confusing at times and all the # stuff was just plain annoying. The ending was also a real disappointment and left me saying, "Are you f***ing kidding me?"

Story
Back in 1985, Frank Mackey was a nineteen-year-old kid with a dream of escaping his family's cramped flat on Faithful Place and running away to London with his girl, Rosie Daly. But on the night they were supposed to leave, Rosie didn't show. Frank took it for granted that she'd dumped him-probably because of his alcoholic father, nutcase mother, and generally dysfunctional family. He never went home again. Neither did Rosie. Then, twenty-two years later, Rosie's suitcase shows up.

This is the third Tana French novel I have read and the best so far. The narration is excellent and the characters are real and gritty. Author actually solves the mystery this time. The angst of youthful love and turmoil is poignant and beautifully portrayed.

Interesting but tedious
Reviewed: 11-09-22
This novel is an improvement over previous one which left a huge mystery unsolved. In this one at least the culprit is identified but there are underlying suggestions that the presumed solution is not accurate. The author has a preference for the ambiguous obviously. The author creates scenes and dialogues in intense detail, and her language is lovely--but at times I got bored and wanted her to get on with it. The story was more psychological than crime mystery and probably could have been told in half the pages.

Mediocre Story
Reviewed: 11-03-22
I have read all of the books by this author and this one did not measure up. There. Is I initially too much going back and forth in time making the plot confusing. Second, there are just too many characters and sub plots, many of which are simply irrelevant. It is as if the author had a lot of stories in her mind and couldn't decide which to tell so she tried to include them all in one novel like a crazy patchwork quilt. It just doesn't work.

Story
Detective Harry Grimm is a worried man. When a group of vigilante locals start patrolling the Dales in response to a recent spate of crimes, he is forced to warn them off. Things only get more complicated when he is called out to multiple crime scenes—each with plenty of blood but no bodies. Very soon, though, body parts start turning up. Delivered in a way that echoes a local poem and an old-but-grisly village ceremony. Faced with the bloody evidence in front of him, Grimm soon realizes that his worst fears have come true: someone has already taken the law into their own hands.
