Great Narration & Steamy Scenes

This is the first Donna Alam story that I’ve come across, and though I love her writing style, the story has way too much detail in some places and probably could’ve been shortened to about 12 hours. But I loved the deep British and Scottish brogue! That is what kept me listening through the too-long story.

Sebastian York has such a sultry voice, but this would have been much better narrated by a male and female, as the female was an equal character to the male. The tension in the last hour would have been better had there been more conflict and tension, then the resolution. Did you ever think about using the knowledge and experience of the new sister-in-law, a psychologist, to help one or both of the lovers resolve their tension?

I love Anna Kendrick in movies and interviews! I kept turning this audiobook back on, hoping it was my mood, or that it would improve. Ugh! She comes off as either someone who thinks really poorly of herself, or someone who wants us to think so. The self-depreciation never stopped. In a time where strong female roll models are so important, I don’t see how this book made it off of the editor’s desk to be published. The stories were cute, and had the potential to be even more funny than presented, if not for the tone of self-loathing and the constant apologizing. Please, Anna, take a stand, learn to like yourself, stop worrying that you’re going to offend everyone, and then try again!

I started this book thinking it would just be about a therapist’s journey through a hard time. But as I listened, there was a funky bunch of the therapist’s own patients and the colorful people in their lives that kept me hooked. I was surprised and relieved that not everyone’s journey had a storybook ending, and that success wasn’t always measured by society’s norms! It was a great look into the world of psychotherapy from the therapist’s point of view. I laughed and cried as many of the stories hit close to home. And I was shocked that I came to have a soft spot for even the most difficult “idiot” characters.

Would like to see a follow-up

This is a story that affected me in Northern California as a child in the 1970’s... the first time we had to lock our doors, close our windows at night and got a guard dog. Michelle McNamara did a hauntingly beautiful job writing this book and investigating this case. Sadly, the book was left unfinished with the author’s early death, but the team did a great job finishing up without her. AND now that they’ve caught this abhorrent man, I hope for a follow-up in a few years by the investigative team to tell the rest of the story and analyze how truly close Michelle McNamara was with many of her theories.

Boundaries Audiobook By Dr. John Townsend, Dr. Henry Cloud cover art

I think EVERYONE should read this book. Though written many years ago, the message is still relevant. We all need to establish boundaries at work, home, with family and friends, and within ourselves in order to be our best selves. Dr. Cloud presents this information with scenarios that make it relatable. In the narration, his voice changes to high and low to speak for men and women, and I often found that comical and distracting, but I would still recommend this audiobook overall.

This short overview was a nice way to first hear John Gottman and his philosophies. It made me want to read/listen to one of his other, more complete, books.

I don't know why I ever try any other recording or podcast to fall asleep! I ALWAYS end up falling asleep before Chapter 2 even begins. Between the progressive muscle technique and the narrator, Colin Griffiths-Brown, I'm always transported to the land of restful sleep.

This book was great, and really left me disappointed that it had ended. I think the audio form of this book is a treat! Much funnier than if I'd here read it in print form.

This book was written and narrated as if I was being talked to personally. I've read a ton of parenting books on parenting difficult children...but this one spoke about MY kid...the one who doesn't fit traditional modes. If you have an adopted child, or a child with a background of abuse and trauma, this book is for you!
