Story
For as long as she can remember, Doric has felt alone. Abandoned by her human parents, she wandered for years before being taken in by a community of Neverwinter Wood elves. But her horns and tail proclaim a tiefling heritage, and even among the kindest of elves, her fledgling druidic abilities mark her as different from the rangers around her. And as humans begin to encroach farther and farther into the once pristine woods, Doric knows she needs to master her druidic capabilities if she is to be any help to her adopted family.

A gritty new heroes tale with good comic relief.
Reviewed: 02-08-23
this book is a bit gritty, with some great comic relief in there. it tackles a lot of stuff in the real world but keeps it grounded in storytelling and a watchman like feel for super heroes.
good guy or bad guy, they all make you think deeply. and we learn there are always consequences to every action.

a good fun story
Reviewed: 12-02-22
Story is fun, An urban Fantasy version of Eragon or How to Tame Your Dragon. there were a few word or phrase choices that were not things normally said by someone In the U.S. (a middle to lower class person from L.A. more so) such as referring to trash/garbage as rubbish, for example. this sometimes would take me out of the story. Overall it is a fun story, And I look forward to the next one and seeing how the world and characters develop. there is so much room for this world to grow, I am excited to see it. I assume this being the first book that the others only can get better and better. The audiobook narrator also kept my attention and did a Good job at differentiating important characters.

this is a great story and novel. Chris Jackson is one of my favorite authors. This is one of his earlier pieces and I am excited to hear the rest on audible and seeing how his skills have changed from this work to his more recent amazing works in the Five Fold series and his post apocalyptic book The Last.
This book is a great read and listen too. the narrator does a fantastic job.

I really wanted to enjoy the story. I had heard nothing but good things about it. But I'll have to get the physical copy. I had a hard time listening as the Audio quality wasn't very good. I also had a difficult time with the Narrator's performance. These things combined made it so I wasn't able to finish the audiobook.

I can't wait for a second book. I love the combination of mystery during the story and character building phase. my only issue was the conclusion to the curse plot was a bit of a let down.. but not enough to take away my rating. the Narrator was perfect for this book and I hope he does all future books in this line.

about 15% of this is about elevator pitches. the rest is about other kinds of sales strategies. for a book that talks about proper representation and getting to the point. youd think they would have had a more accurate book title. and I am still waiting for them to get to the point, which I thought.. was elevator pitches.

Story
In 2016, the morning after Valentine's Day, Luke's son passed away from breathing issues complicated by congenital birth defects. He was 21 months old. And his name was Finnegan. This kind of loss is terrifyingly huge and scary, but the love and light in this story far outweigh the tragedy. Through comic-book metaphors, Shakespeare references, and lilting Irish brogues, Luke tells the story of his too-short time with Finn. This is his tribute to storytelling, parenthood, and his rosy-cheeked, blue-eyed baby boy.

Lessons in Grief and Recovery
Reviewed: 09-01-20
Everyone has greif.. one of my favorite audible voices shares his, to hope everyone can learn to share theirs, and talk about it. It may poke old wounds and trigger old grief.
Though it certainly helps us (me) to realize that burying our grief is not good, and that saddness and showing it is NOT a weakness. Asking for help, or a shoulder to cry on is not a bad thing. It takes more strength and courage to ask for help when you need it, than to pretend you are ok.
I wished this was a lesson I'd have learned when my mom passed. And was one I was only just learning when my dad (stepdad technically) passed.
I suggest giving it a listen, it didn't cost me anything .. but its a great heartfelt story... one i'd have paid for.
