Story
Patrick, or Gay Uncle Patrick (GUP, for short), has always loved his niece, Maisie, and nephew, Grant. That is, he loves spending time with them when they come out to Palm Springs for weeklong visits, or when he heads home to Connecticut for the holidays. But in terms of caretaking and relating to two children, no matter how adorable, Patrick is, honestly, overwhelmed. So when tragedy strikes and Maisie and Grant lose their mother and Patrick's brother has a health crisis of his own, Patrick finds himself suddenly taking on the role of primary guardian.

Although it took me some time to get into the book, the main character, gay, Uncle Patrick, through his CA summer taking care of his young niece & nephew who have just lost their mother and their father is in rehab, turns into an endearing story of them all learning about themselves, those they love and loved, accepting what is and finding ways to build and sustain the relationships they have. I agree with other reviewers who see Dan Levy as Patrick in a movie version !

Story
In my book, you will meet a little girl named Viola who ran from her past until she made a life-changing decision to stop running forever. This is my story, from a crumbling apartment in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the stage in New York City, and beyond. This is the path I took to finding my purpose but also my voice in a world that didn’t always see me.

Thanks to Viola for Sharing Her Story, Her Life

The story, the honesty, the journey, the reflections, the humor, the education and reminder of humanness provided us as she shares her childhood of poverty along with her path to stellar acting performances we've gotten to enjoy, her struggles with and insights into perceptions and treatment of dark skinned Black women, all of this makes for an excellent read. Her narration was captivating and truly a performance -- an excellent book. I finished listening over 3 days.

Story
Everyone knows everyone in the tiny town of Bourne, but the Mitchell triplets are especially beloved. Mirabel is the smartest person anyone knows, and no one doubts it just because she can’t speak. Monday is the town’s purveyor of books now that the library’s closed - tell her the book you think you want, and she’ll pull the one you actually do from the microwave or her sock drawer. Mab’s job is hardest of all: get good grades, get into college, get out of Bourne.

Several chapters in and I have no interest to finish, plodding. Even having 3 narrators for the 3 main characters did not make it more interesting.

Story
Much has been written about Berdis Baldwin's son James, about Alberta King's son Martin Luther, and Louise Little's son Malcolm. But virtually nothing has been said about the extraordinary women who raised them. In her groundbreaking and essential debut The Three Mothers, scholar Anna Malaika Tubbs celebrates Black motherhood by telling the story of the three women who raised and shaped some of America's most pivotal heroes.

Mothers' impact and influence on James Baldwin, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X -- their beginnings, their drive, their husbands and children shared here. The organization was a bit challenging, maybe more so as listener, as the stories of these 3 women was interwoven throughout.

Story
In this brilliant book, Isabel Wilkerson gives us a masterful portrait of an unseen phenomenon in America as she explores, through an immersive, deeply researched narrative and stories about real people, how America today and throughout its history has been shaped by a hidden caste system, a rigid hierarchy of human rankings. Beautifully written, original, and revealing, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents is an eye-opening story of people and history, and a reexamination of what lies under the surface of ordinary lives and of American life today.

Story
The hardscrabble folks of Troublesome Creek have to scrap for everything - everything except books, that is. Thanks to Roosevelt's Kentucky Pack Horse Library Project, Troublesome's got its very own traveling librarian, Cussy Mary Carter. Cussy's not only a book woman, however, she's also the last of her kind, her skin a shade of blue unlike most anyone else. Not everyone is keen on Cussy's family or the Library Project, and a Blue is often blamed for any whiff of trouble.

Joe Allston is a retired literary agent who is, in his own words, "killing time before time gets around to killing me." His parents and his only son are long dead, leaving him with neither ancestors nor descendants, tradition nor ties. His job, trafficking the talent of others, had not been his choice. He passes through life as a spectator. But a postcard from a friend causes him to return to the journals of a trip he had taken years before.

Stegner's writing is so compelling -- took me a bit to get to the story -- in the beginning it's a leisurely look at what's happening around him and to himself as he's aging. A delightful read.
