Story
Avery Mason, host of American Events, knows the subjects that grab a TV audience’s attention. Her latest story - a murder mystery laced with kinky sex, tragedy, and betrayal - is guaranteed to be ratings gold. New DNA technology has allowed the New York medical examiner’s office to make its first successful identification of a 9/11 victim in years. The twist: The victim, Victoria Ford, had been accused of the gruesome murder of her married lover. In a chilling last phone call to her sister, Victoria begged her to prove her innocence.

Surprise plot twist
Reviewed: 12-27-24
I was not expecting to be so engaged with the characters and the story.
And then…plot twist caught me by surprise. Nice job.
Great narration that kept my attention with no repetitious annoyances. The narrator represented male and female characters in a great way without going overboard. The narrator has a nice mellow, even tone and style. I really liked it.

Years have passed since Earth encountered its first known interstellar object: Oumuamua. Now an even larger one has been discovered, following the exact same trajectory as its predecessor. Scientists around the world theorize that this can no longer be passed off as mere coincidence - the new contact must be an artificial construct of some kind.

It was entertaining- lacked details and many blatant tech omissions- so if you want hard science fiction or space battle or any details other than entertaining storyline, you might not like this book.
I am still trying to get over how planning to travel inner space to determine nature of UFO - aliens vs meteor - and upon arrival-no Geiger counter made the trip.

What’s all the hype about…?
Reviewed: 12-03-24
I just can’t keep waiting for something to happen… I’m 7 hours in and exhausted just plodding along without conflict or action.
I’m not sure there’s enough sci-fi at this point to justify categorizing it as sci-fi. The sci fi so far just been a method of getting to another time in history.

Neal Carey is not your usual private eye. A graduate student at Columbia University, he grew up on the streets of New York, usually on the wrong side of the law. Then he met a P.I. who introduced him to the Bank, an exclusive institution with a sideline in keeping its wealthy clients happy and out of trouble. They pay Neal's college tuition, and Neal gets an education that can't be found in any textbook, from learning how to trail a suspect to mastering the proper way to search a room. Now it's payback time.

I got pulled in…

Well, I’m in between credits and refused to support any free book that uses VIRTUAL VOICES. I chose this genre as a light listen and something to occupy my mind.
I’m not usually into detective or street work type genres. I like a lot of action and typically am mainly sci-fi or post apocalypse reader.
This book really pulled me in with the main characteristics and narrators smooth yet perfect balance of inflection to create mindset and humor.
This has been an engaging and humorous read while working through a serious storyline.
Oh God, I guess I’m gonna get into back street stories after all.

Dammit man, Now this is what I needed! What a trip. I thoroughly enjoyed this creative and original story. Incredible imagination and seamless transition throughout.
And then you add this narrator? He took a great story and elevated it to another level. Brought it all to life and pulled me right in there with the characters. Excellent closure as well. I will be pulling this one out again for a second read in the future.

An attitude? Why not? After all, what would you do if you were abducted by aliens and transported into a strange new universe away from your home, your family - everything familiar to you? Would it make you happy? Not likely! Now imagine you're stronger, faster, and more coordinated than every alien species you encounter. Would you start kicking some ass? Of course you would! This is the story of human superiority in the galaxy, a gritty, realistic profile of a young Navy SEAL who doesn't like aliens very much - and he makes them pay for the bad mood he's in.

Not military- no character background
Reviewed: 10-27-24
Only 15 hours to go… sigh this book could have been so much better. The military angle was so weak. from soldiers arguing with their captain to some civilian female schoolteacher chastising them while they strategize because they’re arguing. So they stop? Oh, and the captain carrrying a desert Eagle in a hip holster. I’m not military, but even I was rolling my eyes.
Who are these people and why are the military people so wrapped up in their feelings. I’m Not digging the googly eyed captain and his feelings. Not a fan- but the narrator was fine.

Like many, Mackenzie Garret complains about the weather. It is the hottest summer anyone can remember. The high temperatures are out of control with no end in sight. Until it all changes. Overnight, blue skies become gray, and the hot, humid weather turns to rain, then snow, then ice as the temperature plummets. The entire northern half of the country is thrown into chaos as blow by blow, storm after storm, nature rips into the world, tearing it apart.

Overall, this story was fine. I did appreciate that it wasn’t only growling predictable, zombies and zombie behavior. However, I never really felt like I knew the characters and none of them stood out as particularly special. The story took a lot of different directions and seemed disjointed at times. it did not flow well to me. Fortunately, the narrator did his best to keep it from getting to monotonous and keep it engaging. I bought the three pack series for one credit. There is not enough substance to justify giving up a credit on any just one of the three books.
