Perfectly fine, but don't start the series here

I found this book the least engaging of the series, perhaps because the Georgie is more polished and the US setting took me away from the Britishness which is so central to the tone of the series.

How can you not relish this slice of life 'below stairs' in the world of 'Pride and Prejudice'? The events that loom so large in Elizabeth and Jane's world are but inconveniences and extra labour for the household staff (oh, the endless washing!). For the first hour of listening I was unconsciously wanting to hear more about the Bennets - as though that was the 'real' story - then I gradually became caught up in the lives of the staff as their characters unfolded, richly and well.

Recommended.

For die hard fans only. Yes, I've read the previous 11 books at one time of another in the past couple of decades, but this one just floored me. I simply can't keep the various threads of the story intact, and Weber is utterly unforgiving - you just have to work it all out for yourself somehow. Best of luck.

This collection of three stories is delightful; I didn't know anything about 'Skylark' and 'Caleb's Story' so these were bonus treats for me. Lovely performance by Glenn Close.

The concept of a collection of stories by different authors set in the same future place and time worked well for me, but as with all short story collections I found the experience frustrating at times. If the story was strong, I wanted more.

If this world is interesting to you, try 'Soft Apocalypse'; some similar concepts, but played out across a full novel.

A crackerjack yarn, thoroughly engrossing. I loved the moral ambiguities and the ambivalence in the main character's 'voice'. Highly recommended.
