Simplistic, predictable & boaring
Reviewed: 09-19-24
The performance was okay but not great. The story itself was so simplistic it was almost childish; as if it was written by a very young teenager trying to be a grownup. The whole thing was painfully predictable and boring.

The book is about his journey and some things he's read. He doens't have a medical background in nutrition or fitness and the book if very repetitive. I do not recommend this book.

Horrid Narrator and Amaturish Writing
Reviewed: 12-12-22
I am shocked at the number of positive reviews on this book. This is the first in the series that I've listened to and it will be my last. The narrator, for me, was worse than nails on a chalk board. She sounded like she was reading the book to a 2 year old. The characters in the book were aweful. I really wanted to like this book. I wanted a clean, good mystery, but this book was amaturish. The main character was so whiny and weak and pathetic that I can't believe there are multiple books written using her and her family. The mystery itself was boring and simple. I absolutely cannot recommend this book and wonder why so many people like it.

The freeway is coming. It will cut the neighborhood in two. Construction has already started, pushing toward this corridor of condemned houses and cracked concrete with the momentum of the inevitable. Yet there you are, in the fifth house on the left, fighting for your life. Ramey, I. The victim of the bet between two manufactured gods: the seductive and lethal Roxy (Oxycontin), who is at the top of her game, and the smart, high-achieving Addison (Adderall), who is tired of being the helpful one, and longs for a more dangerous, less wholesome image.

Its been a very long time since I listened or read a book I couldn'b put down, but this is one of them. The story was completely engaging with fantastic characters and a great depth. My only con for this book is that Sanderson hasn't written the seond one in this series and its been 10 years since this one was released. Regardless, listen to this book because its great.

Excessive Profanity
Reviewed: 11-29-22
This book could have been fantastic. It has a great narrator and is a well-written mystery, even though I knew the killer before the mid-point. The reason I gave one star is due to the excessive profanity (too many "F" bombs) and the sexual vulgarity that runs rampant throughout the book. The story deals with underage teenagers having inappropriate sex with inappropriate people, getting raped and killed and all of it is explained in vulgar and crude detail.
