Story
When Elon Musk was a kid in South Africa, he was regularly beaten by bullies. One day a group pushed him down some concrete steps and kicked him until his face was a swollen ball of flesh. He was in the hospital for a week. But the physical scars were minor compared to the emotional ones inflicted by his father, an engineer, rogue, and charismatic fantasist.

Story
In 1972, when workers in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, were digging the foundations for a new development, the last thing they expected to find was a skeleton at the bottom of a well. Who the skeleton was and how it got there were two of the long-held secrets kept by the residents of Chicken Hill, the dilapidated neighborhood where immigrant Jews and African Americans lived side by side and shared ambitions and sorrows. Chicken Hill was where Moshe and Chona Ludlow lived when Moshe integrated his theater and where Chona ran the Heaven & Earth Grocery Store.

This is a story of endless child beatings and sexual abuse. The relentless masochism is nauseating. There is absolutely nothing Amish about the family except for hiding from society in Amish-like clothing. If the account is true, it’s beyond heartbreaking but should be worked out in therapy. This is far from entertainment or enlightenment, which what I look for in a read. Couldn’t finish it.

By the time I finished the 19 hours of Becoming, read by Michelle Obama, I felt like she was my closest friend and now I miss her. A part of me feels like I could call her up and ask her how she's been; the other part grieves that she is out of my reach. The story is riveting and hearing Michelle's voice telling her story is a wonderful experience.

Mary Dinuzio has just been promoted to partner and is about to take on her most unusual case yet, brought to the firm by a thirteen-year-old genius with a penchant for beekeeping. Allegra Gardner's sister Fiona was murdered six years ago, and it seemed like an open-and-shut case: the accused, Lonnie Stall, was seen fleeing the scene; his blood was on Fiona and her blood was on him; most damningly, Lonnie Stall pleaded guilty.

This sure stretches the meaning of poetic license! Started off well, but quickly became ridiculously unbelievable. By the end, Scottoline didn’t seem to know.......well, won’t spoil it if you’re aching to read this. The writing is good and Scottoline shows a good sense of humor but where were the editor and psychiatric consultant. The narrator has a limitless assortment of voices that distinguished each character and helped engage my attention to the bitter end.
