Story
Thirty-three-year-old Abby Stern has made it to a happy place. True, she still has gig jobs instead of a career, and the apartment where she’s lived since college still looks like she’s just moved in. But she’s got good friends, her bike, and her bicycling club in Philadelphia. She’s at peace with her plus-size body—at least, most of the time—and she’s on track to marry Mark Medoff, her childhood sweetheart, a man she met at the weight-loss camp that her perpetually dieting mother forced her to attend.

I have loved Jennifer Weiner’s books for years. I was so disappointed in The Summer Place last year, but remained hopeful for the 2023 book, The Breakaway. Ugh, more of the same . . . checking off all social craziness boxes she could cram in. Narration was tough to plug though too.
I’ll hope for the old Jennifer next year.

DBF is smiling down. I chose Sullivan’s Island at the bookstore years ago because Sullivan is my last name. I was hooked from that very first book, and I waited patiently each spring/early summer for the next. I was heartbroken to hear that Dorothea had passed, as she was incredibly talented and a gift to her fans.
Victoria has done her proud, no doubt! I loved this book!

mispronounced words/names
Reviewed: 02-26-23
Loved the Sanibel series, so started this one. I like the story thus far, so I have already purchased the next two books in this series, but the narration takes away from the story. The accents are sometimes inconsistent from one interaction to the next such as Val’s, several names are routinely mispronounced such as the main character’s when referred to as BAck I stead of Beck, and there are odd word exaggeration at times.

Selfish, sneaky, and rotten characters abound. Story is was nothing short of outrageous and made up of liars, martyrs, and cheaters all wrapped into one crazy family.
This story lacked the humor that the author always sprinkles into her work.
