It's Mythology

I don't read the comics. I haven't seen the movies. But this book grabbed my attention and took me for the ride of Superman's life. An American myth.

I saw the author was Oscar Wilde and figured "why not?". 5 wonderful stories full of brilliant quotable dialogue. So glad I picked it.

Story
When COVID-19 sweeps through New York City, Jamie Gray is stuck as a dead-end driver for food-delivery apps. That is, until Jamie makes a delivery to an old acquaintance, Tom, who works at what he calls “an animal rights organization”. Tom’s team needs a last-minute grunt to handle things on their next field visit. Jamie, eager to do anything, immediately signs on. What Tom doesn't tell Jamie is that the animals his team cares for are not here on Earth. Not our Earth, at at least. In an alternate dimension, dinosaur-like creatures named Kaiju roam a warm and human-free world.

KPS has been a wonderful reimagining of the Kaiju mythology. Not grandiose. Not pretentious. Just a fun ride.
Wil Wheaton gives a wonderful performance bringing life to the words.

Story
Centuries before the events of A Game of Thrones, House Targaryen - the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria - took up residence on Dragonstone. Fire & Blood begins their tale with the legendary Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and goes on to recount the generations of Targaryens who fought to hold that iconic seat, all the way up to the civil war that nearly tore their dynasty apart.

Story
Marked by Irvine Welsh’s scabrous humor and raw Scottish vernacular, Skagboys transports us to 1980s Edinburgh, where the Trainspotting crew is just getting started. Mark Renton has it all: the first in his family to attend university, he has a pretty girlfriend and a great social life. But when economic uncertainties and family problems intervene, Rent succumbs to the defeatism - not to mention the drug use - that has taken hold in Edinburgh’s tougher quarters. His friends are responding according to personality....

Wonderful Narration

The story is a gritty rollercoaster like Trainspotting. Tam Dean Burn brings it to life with the array of characters' accents and turns of phrase. A dark and fun 24-hour listening experience.
