Story
When the enslaved Jim overhears that he is about to be sold to a man in New Orleans, separated from his wife and daughter forever, he decides to hide on nearby Jackson Island until he can formulate a plan. Meanwhile, Huck Finn has faked his own death to escape his violent father, recently returned to town. As all readers of American literature know, thus begins the dangerous and transcendent journey by raft down the Mississippi River toward the elusive and too-often-unreliable promise of the Free States and beyond.

I couldn't have imaged the life if a slave and how we were treated, but this book really took you to that place and time. My mind is blown. It seems like the past is trying to repeat itself today. We won't go back!

This book pretty much followed the usual script of high powered man ha ING and affair and wife helping him cover up murder of mistress, except the daughter was the puppeteer all along. This is what happen to children who grow up on screens and are emotionally stunted. They plot revenge on their love ones because life isn't going they way they think it should go.

This book was a good listen. It shows you how life can change your plans, in a blink of an eye. It shows you can love something intensely one minute and hate it the next. Very contemplative read.

I love this book. It deals with mental health issues with women and relationships with men and showing how far we will go to construct the world we qant to live in. The time honored story of women turning on women over a man. I was intrigued.

Story
When Harland Cain holds a .45 automatic to his head and bears down slowly upon the trigger, he experiences a profound sense of control over his destiny for the first time in his life. He savors the moment and imagines the click of the hammer, the explosion, and the bullet spiraling through the barrel before everything turns black. It's then he hears the out-of-control screaming of tires on the pavement, followed by the sickening sound of metal crashing against concrete. He lays down the pistol and crosses his yard in that predawn darkness to find a young boy, bloody and dazed.
