Background music too loud - ruined the experience
Reviewed: 05-23-24
The story started off great and I look forward to reading it on Kindle. I am a Homes fan and this really struck a fine Holmes' chord. The narrator was very good also. So what is the problem? The overpowering continuous background music was too distracting and did not let me listen well to the words or the narrator. I only have one good ear, but I listen to Audible books daily and never have had this problem. Very disappointing.

Story
DI Kate Young is on leave. She’s the force’s best detective, but her bosses know she’s under pressure, on medication and overcoming trauma. So after her bad judgement call leads to a narrowly averted public disaster, they’re sure all she needs is a rest. But when Staffordshire Police summon her back to work on a murder case, it’s a harder, more suspicious Kate Young who returns. With a new ruthlessness, she sets about tracking down a clinical, calculating serial killer who is torturing victims and leaving clues to taunt the police.

Pushed through the horrible narrator
Reviewed: 05-28-22
In spite of the pain from the shrill, nasal and often frantic narration, I held the course because the story began to interest me. Glad I did, but really will never be able to listen to this narrator again. It hurt my head too much. The story though kept me, with sufficient twists and surprises, and some interesting characters. But I solved it too soon. At least, I solved the "who" too soon, if not the "why."
