Intriguing story of every day people as told by Dr. Franklin

I found this story and added it to listen to when I couldn’t choose something at some point. It took me a while to recall it, but I’m so glad I did. This was surprisingly fun and the story shares the most captivating and entertaining glimpses of the bits of life that the Chicago doctor saw in his patients, his colleagues, students, and residents. He shares stories from his early days and later. I enjoyed every minute of this book.

Story
The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

This story captured me with its beautiful characters. I could not stop listening and barely wanted my long commutes to end each day, so sometimes stayed up far too late listening again. This tells of a side of WWII that I’ve not read about as much & it really draws you in. The strength of their character is evident. The desperation of the time they were enduring shines a light into the human spirit that seems to rise up in the midst of severe persecutions. Prepare your heart to cry out, love, laugh and suffer alongside the subjects in this book, some of whom it may surprise you to embrace.

The reader is clear-spoken and as she reads I feel Jane’s joy and her suffering as if I experienced it with her. She reads well and causes me to feel as if Jane herself is sharing her story.

Story
In Gay Girl, Good God, author Jackie Hill Perry shares her own story, offering practical tools that helped her in the process of finding wholeness. Jackie grew up fatherless and experienced gender confusion. She embraced masculinity and homosexuality with every fiber of her being. She knew that Christians had a lot to say about all of the above. But was she supposed to change herself? How was she supposed to stop loving women, when homosexuality felt more natural to her than heterosexuality ever could?
