Story
Emma Luchessi may be a witch from Long Island but she is used to her life being quiet. Some may even say boring. Boring is safe. Like beige. One doesn't get into trouble with beige. But a wrong turn off a southern highway is about to turn Emma's beige life into everything but boring.

- By: Shelly Laurenston

Lacks humor, bad narration.
Reviewed: 12-08-24
I enjoyed Shelly Laurenston's Pride and Badger series so much. The humor and the characters are such fun.
For My Kind of Town, though--this is not so. It is linked with the series I mentioned above because it is Smithvill and seems to have shifters with the same rules. There is little to no humor in this story and the main character's internal dialog is flat and uninteresting.
The narration is awful. The breathy, one dimensional voice is distracting and doesn't fit. She doesn't even attempt a NY or Long Island accent and her execution of a deep south accent is spotty and lackluster.
This just isn't up to the standards I'm used to from Shelly Laurenston.

Story
Emmett Lasker is impossible to work for. He might be model handsome and stupidly wealthy, but he also has it out for me. He’s given me more last-minute and weekend requests than anyone else, ruining any plans I make. I should quit. And I will. Just as soon as I hit my two-year anniversary and earn out my signing bonus. But after a particularly awful day at work, a breakup (via text!), and my computer crashing, I’ve had enough! So at 11:59 Friday night, I barge into Emmett’s office to tell him what I really think of him. Only, that’s not what happens. AT ALL.

This one is a lot of fun. I actually liked that it's kind of predictable. It made me laugh out loud a couple of times too . . . always a plus.

Story
Ruthless, iron-willed Sebastian Lasker is furious he's being forced to marry me—a woman as notorious as his father. He's my family's biggest corporate rival, and it seems he'll do anything to save his company. Even marry me. But when Sebastian starts saying "my wife" every chance he gets—especially in front of my exes—and protects me from my abusive family, who are partially responsible for my terrible reputation, our pretend marriage begins to feel all too real...

I did enjoy it and since I know the characters, the story made sense.

This book really needs to be read after the one that precedes it in the series.
It is, however, a very good story. The ghosts and Danielle's friends combine to foil a murder attempt.

Good addition to the series,
Reviewed: 10-04-24
Romy Nordlinger is a good narrator, sadly, though, this book has so many characters and she doesn't really differentiate between them well enough. It got confusing. There were times I had to rewind and try to figure out who said what. Also, all the ghosts sound exactly alike . . . so confusing
The story is quite involving, Marlow house is fairly full for Valentine's day with long and short term visitors. Then there's a murder.
A fun listen.
