Casually Queer Christmas

This is a book that encapsulates if "right person, wrong time" got their second chance. I love it so much and it felt so healing to have a casually queer Christmas story.

The Blueprint of Feral

These books covers so many complicated nuances of friendship and love and war and desperation and winning and what happens after winning and betrayal - I could go on. Rin is absolutely feral, you spend the book sinking into being feral right along with her and you understand why she's doing it - which is an amazing feat by the author because if you were reading a book from another POV about Rin, she'd probably be the villain.

An absolutely beautiful continuation into the world Shannon created. This book hits hard for those of us who enjoy examining the meaning of legacies, the meaning of motherhood, and the complex relationship between parents and children. It's so fascinating to watch how the world we know in Priory got it's shape, and simultaneously so heartbreaking.

The world building in this book is amazing. It's so deep and well-thought out that it leaves you wanting to know more about every aspect.

I loved the use of the multiple povs, and how having so many sides to the same stories really leaves the reader guessing what the real truths are and lends to how unreliable or bias your narrator at the time might be.

Huge bonus points for lots of queer representation and engaging side characters.

The Way Loneliness Feels

I really find this book beautiful. I think the language is beautiful, I think the imagery is beautiful, I think the story is beautiful, I think the message is beautiful - all of it.

I also think it's very heartbreaking and vulnerable. Someone described LaCour's writing as loneliness put into words, and I have to agree. Maybe expanding on it, it's specifically adolescent loneliness. That sort of deep ache that comes with shifting life dynamics.

Highly recommend this book, but it deals with heavy topics at times, so tread lightly.

Diverse and Relatable

I absolutely love this book. Beyond the fact it's a well-written sapphic romance, I love that the author steers away from the all-too-easy "miscommunication" or "unsaid words" trope. When the MC decides to lean into her feelings, she really leans in and the two characters COMMUNICATE. And that's a huge point of the book - how both of them are so used to icing out others or running away when the going gets tough, and you see their growth in them both overcoming those things.

Beyond that, this book has great representation. The diverse cast of queer characters are relatable and I see myself and my friends reflected in them easily.

This book manages to hit on the strife between parents and their children. How they let each other down and affect one another and cause lasting effects that either need addressed or overcome. We love seeing mother's and daughters overcoming generational trauma and habits.

this book is absolutely adorable! it hits on the very real issues of feeling inadequate and letting people down and having to figure out what you want and deserve in life, but it also has the absolute cutest love story.

A wonderful book full of twists and turns. A beautiful look at grief, as well as religion and our relation to religious ideas.
