Story
To be a bookseller or librarian… You have to play detective. Be a treasure hunter. A matchmaker. An advocate. A visionary. A person who creates “book joy” by pulling a book from a shelf, handing it to someone and saying, “You’ve got to read this. You’re going to love it.” Step inside The Secret Lives of Booksellers and Librarians and enter a world where you can feed your curiosities, discover new voices, find whatever you want or require. This place has the magic of rainbows and unicorns, but it's also a business. The book business.

Hits home as a librarian
Reviewed: 07-10-24
I absolutely loved this book. As a high school librarian I appreciated the stories and how they gave credit to the hard work that librarians do. I love that it mentions more than once that librarians need a masters degree - something I don’t think a lot of people understand. It also gave me a deeper appreciation for booksellers as they go into their craft for the same reasons that librarians do. I did find that it was a bit long - maybe ten stories too long. Towards the end I found myself zoning out - not because the stories were boring, but because it felt like I was hearing the same story over and over again. I ended up skipping several stories at the end - which, as a librarian, I think it is ok! I still appreciate the book as a while and hope it gets the attention it deserves.

Hard to get through, but worth it

I have to admit, I had a really, really hard time getting through this book. You keep waiting for something good to happen but it never comes. Without giving too much away, I am thrilled that I stuck with it. The story will be one that stays with me for awhile.

I am so happy with the way this series ended. Well write and well performed. I'm not sure I would have read Holly's words in the same way - which could have changed the tone of her personality. Loved this...Thank you Stephen King!

Story
Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

Good ending to the series but felt more juvenile than the others
Reviewed: 04-05-16
I'll first start by saying I love this series. With that in mind I'll say that I did enjoy this story but not quite as much as the others. While I understand this is meant for young adults, this one felt much more juvenile than the others. It was hard to get into because of this reason. Don't let that stop you free m listening, just be aware that it has a different feel than the first two books in the series.

The Amazing Arden is the most famous female illusionist of her day, renowned for her notorious trick of sawing a man in half on stage. One night in Waterloo, Iowa, with young policeman Virgil Holt watching from the audience, she swaps her trademark saw for a fire ax. Is it a new version of the illusion, or an all-too-real murder? When Arden's husband is found lifeless beneath the stage later that night, the answer seems clear.
