In this second book of the Marlowe series, I found that the protagonists had become caricatures instead of multifaceted humans. The mystery was interesting with a lot of red herrings along the way, but I had a tough time getting past the stereotypes of the three main women characters.

I thought this book was the best one in the Beryl and Edwina series. I couldn’t stop listening.

I wait impatiently for each new Heathcliff Lennox book to be released and this one did not disappoint. Sam Dewhurst-Phillips does excellent work narrating the books and I appreciate Foggy’s barks interspersed throughout the book.

I hadn’t read anything by Barbara Pam before, and was delighted that this came as an audible recommendation.

I can see why critics have called her the Jane Austen of her time. Very well-drawn characters that I felt like I knew by the end of the book.

I enjoyed this story if Mary Bennett, the middle of the 5 sisters and thought the author did a very nice job of capturing the Austen feel.

However, the first half of the book is, at times, distinctly too long and needed to be cut in half.

The narrator is easy to listen to, and was a good choice for this piece.

It took a while for this Stewart story to get started, but once it did it was a fun mystery in an unusual setting.

I truly enjoyed Ellie Heydon’s narration. She masters the art of keeping the story interesting and moving without trying to act all the characters. I will be looking for more books narrated by her.

The story: another good story by Mary Stewart. A quick listen and I really enjoy her descriptions.

The narrator: there is a fine line between bringing characters to life yet still narrating the story so it can be understood. While much of Ms. Bond’s narration is fine, I found some of her characters’ accents very difficult to understand. That gets in the way of truly enjoying the story. I will need to get a copy of the book to read what the narrator mucked up.

I read many of Mary Stewart’s books years ago and am happy to now be able to listen to them. I thought the narration was very well done. Stewart’s descriptions of scenery and places is wonderful; I appreciate it now much more than when I first read her books. Definitely worth listening to again and again.

Alda does a very nice job explaining the need for scientists to communicate their work effectively and provides engaging stories and suggestions. I recommend this book to friends and clients in science fields to sharpen their abilities to connect with others.

I’ve only read Tey’s “The Daughter of Time” prior to this book, which was recommended by a friend. Happy to find the the book was as good as advertised. Looking forward to more Inspector Grant novels.
