Story
All newly minted pediatrician Jamie Malek wants is to borrow a roasting pan for Christmas dinner. Unfortunately, that requires her to interact with Marc—her best friend’s troublemaking brother, who’s now a tech billionaire. He’s the one who got away. She’s the one who broke his heart. Outside, a howling blizzard. Inside, a crackling fire. Suddenly, being snowbound with the man she never expected to see again might not be such a bad way to spend a winter’s night.

I loved this short story about the two main characters Jamie and Marc. They are friends who grew up together. I love the chemistry between these two characters. I was frustrated though with Jamie sabotaging the relationship because of her insecurity. The narrator did a great job. This was easy and fun to listen to.

Story
What will become of our self-destructed planet? The answer shatters all expectations in this subversive speculation from the Hugo Award - winning author of the Broken Earth trilogy. An explorer returns to gather information from a climate-ravaged Earth that his ancestors, and others among the planet’s finest, fled centuries ago. The mission comes with a warning: A graveyard world awaits him. But so do those left behind - hopeless and unbeautiful wastes of humanity who should have died out ages ago.

Emergency Skin was Mysterious

This was a different type of story where the viewpoint you receive is a voice in the main character's head. They give knowledge to the person and react to what they do. It was very interesting and mysterious. The reader learns what is happening as the main character does.

I liked the concept. However, I didn't like that the two main characters pretended to be a couple and got married, simply for money and the lifestyle. They took advantage of everyone around them for selfish means. When it was discovered, they never apologized. Instead, they continued to pretend.

This story was short cozy mystery. It was a lot of fun. I liked that the PI in this series is an ex-Chef. That is a new take. It has lots of drama. This reminded me of Scooby-Doo and was perfect for the Fall season.

Story
This collection opens with an essay about how writing has helped Andrea Levy to explore and understand her heritage. She explains the context of each piece within the chronology of her career and finishes with a new story, written to mark the centenary of the outbreak of the Great War in 1914. As with her novels, these stories are at once moving and honest, deft and humane, filled with insight, anger at injustice, and her trademark lightness of touch.

In this new recording, Paapa Essiedu breathes new life into the classic tale. Robert Louis Stevenson's dark psychological fantasy follows a respectable London lawyer as he investigates the strange relationship between his old friend Dr Henry Jekyll and the evil Edward Hyde. Its sensitive portrayal of man's dual nature is moving, beautiful and terrifying in equal measure.

Everyone knows this story but I have never read nor listened to it before. The story is very different than what is portrayed on TV. Most of the story is the lawyer going back and forth between Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. the lawyer is concerned for Dr Jekyll's (his friend) welfare. It isn't until the last chapter that we learn that, in fact, these two persons exist in one body. That it was an experiment that Dr Jekyll could not control. The narrator did a great job. This was a very easy book to listen to and understand, if a little boring.

I liked this sequel better than the first. The plot is great and shows how de-humanizing people based on traits doesn't work. I didn't love that the main character, Davy, throughout the entire story, seems to whine and complain that she is a carrier and can't be with a guy (Caden) who isn't. Davy clearly bought into the propaganda, even though she could see that her fellow friends and carriers were not bad people. I do feel that the book ended well. The audiobook narrator did a great job.

This book is a fun, heart-warming, coming of age story. I listened to the audiobook; the narrator, Suzy Jackson, did a great job. I really liked the character development. Spensa (Spin) was hard to like in the beginning of the story, as she was so headstrong and over-the-top. As the story progresses and Spensa bonds with the other recruits, you start to care for the characters. This is an easy book to listen to and I definitely recommend it.

I listened to the audiobook and read the author's note and interviews in the ebook. This was a beautifully crafted story that told of love, found-family, tragedy, and loss. It is amazing how the author, Ruth Sepetys, was able to impart the tragedy, fear, death, and loss of the people trying to escape before the Russian army comes through, without giving up hope, friendship, and love. Ruth was able to create the characters' emotions in such a way that you felt you were there with them, willing them to live. The narrators Jorjeana Marie, Will Damron, Cassandra Morris, and Michael Crouch were excellent. I highly recommend this book!

This was a frightful story about two children who were possessed and their governess who tried to save them. The narrator, Emma Thompson, did a marvelous job. I was riveted to the story, wondering what would happen. This book ends on a cliffhanger, so we don't know what happens to the characters.
