Story
When sensible, sophisticated Flora Poste is orphaned at 19, she decides her only choice is to descend upon relatives in deepest Sussex. At the aptly named Cold Comfort Farm, she meets the doomed Starkadders: cousin Judith, heaving with remorse for unspoken wickedness; Amos, preaching fire and damnation; their sons, lustful Seth and despairing Reuben; child of nature Elfine; and crazed old Aunt Ada Doom, who has kept to her bedroom for the last 20 years. But Flora loves nothing better than to organise other people.

I really enjoyed listening to this. The reader was very good, and the writing style was witty and humorous. The story got a bit silly towards the end, but it was really just fun. The kind of thing I need in 2020. I will definitely be seeking out more books by this author!

Story
The world will end on Saturday. Next Saturday. Just before dinner, according to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, the world's only completely accurate book of prophecies, written in 1655. The armies of Good and Evil are amassing and everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except that a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture. And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist.

Story
Twenty years ago, Bill Bryson went on a trip around Britain to discover and celebrate that green and pleasant land. The result was Notes from a Small Island, a true classic and one of the bestselling travel books ever written. Now he has traveled about Britain again, by bus and train and rental car and on foot, to see what has changed—and what hasn’t.

Should be titled "Whingings of a Crabby Old Man"

I have read, or listened to, many Bill Bryson, ad I have enjoyed every one prior to this one. There is just Too. Much. Complaining. I'm within 3 hours of the end, but I'm not going to finish it. If you are an aged person who thinks the world has gone down the crapper, you will probably enjoy hearing your views confirmed. To be fair, though, there are plenty of complaints about past actions as well. It gets pretty tiresome. You enjoy the parts about the lovely treasures hidden all over England, and then have to suffer through a rant about something before he gets to the next one. Enjoy his earlier works, and give this one a miss.
